with global procurement. Alain Sanders explained the model
developed by Hydro‐Quebec that promotes value creation in
collaboration with all groups and divisions. The topics covered
in the evening included model development, integrated sched‐
uling of procurement requirements and organizational commu‐
nication. In the end, the audience contributed to a memorable
evening with great comments and questions.
In November 2016 the topic at the Montreal Section' tech‐
nical meeting was "An Overview of Cost Forecasting of Construc‐
tion Contracts" presented by Hagire Emrani and based on a
paper presented at the Annual Meeting in Toronto in 2016 along
with co‐author Syd Daneshyar, CCP.
Hagire is the Director of Cost Control at SNC‐Lavalin Infra‐
structure in Montreal and Syd is manager of project controls at
SNC‐Lavalin Hydro and Director of an AACE Technical Commit‐
tee, based in Vancouver.

The presentation also described the pre‐requisites of a suc‐
cessful cost management system that creates the right platform
to achieve the right cost forecast and identiﬁed some of the
common pitfalls that can hinder the process of cost manage‐
ment and its results. The topics included prerequisites of suc‐
cessful cost management, a modiﬁed cost forecasting formula,
EAC=AC+ (BAC-EV) +TR and its variations in diﬀerent contract
types and project deﬁnition phases and Success (or Failure) Fac‐
tors: Level of details, Owner, Management Support and Change
A traditional start to the Montreal Section season is the
"Top Picks from the Annual Meeting". This year was no excep‐
tion in September 26, 2016, following the 60th AACE Interna‐
tional meeting in Toronto. Several attendees of the annual
meeting contacted speakers and presented some highlights.
Hosted by Les McMullan, FAACE, Regional Director, Region 1,
provided an overview of the annual meeting themes, following
by three short presentations.
