Harris serves as the chief
safety officer for Rio Grande Pacific (RGP),
where he leads the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures
for the four RGP railroads. He is a longtime
member of the ASLRRA Safety & Training
Committee, which helped develop the
Short Line Safety Institute. He currently
serves as the committee's vice chairman.

Robert Grimaila

Grimaila has a long

safety culture improvement efforts in
conjunction with the Federal Railroad
Administration's (FRA) Office of Research
and Development. He started the first
peer-to-peer safety and observation
program that involved statistical analysis
of observations and corrective actions.
In conjunction with the FRA Office of
Research and Development, he also led

Hofmann is a researcher and teacher in
organizational behavior and leadership.
He is the academic director of the
Leadership Initiative, chair of the
organizational behavior area at UNC's
Kenan-Flagler Business School and a
fellow of the Society for Industrial and
Organizational Psychology and the
Association for Psychological Science.
Hofmann earned his doctorate in

Mike Lowenger

Lowenger's responsibilities at the Railway Association of Canada
(RAC) include coordinating rule development for member railways, promoting
advocacy and support in safety, security
and regulatory affairs. He is also the
chairman of the Operation Lifesaver
Advisory Board in Canada and a board

member of the International Heavy Haul
Association. Before his current position,
Lowenger served as RAC's vice president of
operations and regulatory affairs.
Alan Maples

Everett Railroad Co.

Maples has served on
the ASLRRA Board of
Directors, the executive
committee of the Keystone State Railroad
Association and the Norfolk Southern
Short Line Caucus. Everett is a Class III
common carrier railroad offering carload
freight service in the Allegheny Mountains
region in Blair County, Pennsylvania.
Tom Murta

At CSX, Murta is responsible for train accident and personal injury
reporting, performance evaluations and tool
ergonomics, locomotive engineer and conductor certifications and the operating department's regulatory and policy compliance
monitoring functions across the company's
21,000-mile network. His career in safety,
security, emergency management and crisis
planning spans more than 28 years, across
both the public and private sectors.
Jonathan D. Thomas

National Safety Council

Thomas directs all phases of the National
Safety Council's workplace consulting
services for members and clients, including
employee perception surveys, safety
management system assessments and other
workplace safety and health-related
consulting. Thomas also teaches advanced
research methods, statistics and applied
methods as an adjunct faculty member at
Roosevelt University in Chicago.
