Satisfaction by Practice Size Respondents at smaller practices were more likely to be satisfied with their EHR system. Seventy-seven percent of participants who worked at practices with less than 50 employees were “very” or “somewhat” satisfied with their EHR system, which is considerably higher than the satisfaction reported at larger groups. Ophthalmic practices with 50 to 100 employees reported a satisfaction rating of 68%, while groups with more than 100 employees were slightly more likely to be satisfied with their EHR system, at 71%. Respondents from practices that took active steps to plan during the implementation of their EHR system were far more likely to be satisfied with their systems overall. Eighty-two percent of participants who indicated that their practice planned for ongoing investments in software or equipment updates prior to implementation said that they were either “very” or “somewhat” satisfied with their EHR system. Meanwhile, only 48% of respondents whose practices did not plan in the same fashion expressed the same level of system satisfaction. APRIL 2013 | EHR SATISFACTION STUDY | MCKINLEY ADVISORS 13
