Section 2 – Vendor and System Experience 2.1: Overview Respondents were asked to provide general information on how their practices operate in the context of electronic health record (EHR) systems. This included the extent to which an EHR system has been implemented within their practice, the EHR system vendor and the number of years they have worked with their current system. Practices that have not implemented an EHR system were also asked to select reasons why they had decided not to make such a purchase. EHR System Experience The majority of participants (79%) reported that their practice has purchased an EHR system. Fifty-three percent of these respondents indicated that their practice has “fully” implemented an EHR system, meaning the system is being used by all clinical/practice staff and the practice is 100% paperless. Twenty-six percent indicated that their practice has “partially” implemented an EHR system. While the majority of participants use an EHR system, 20% work in practices that have not purchased a system. Of those participants, 15% reported that their practice plans to purchase a system within the next five years, while 5% said their practice does not plan to purchase an EHR system at all. When asked why their practice is waiting to transition to an EHR system, 51% of respondents cited cost as the top reason. Likewise, cost was reported by 61% of respondents in practices that never plan to purchase an EHR system. Which of the following best describes your practice's experience with EHR systems?
