FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB

Watching staff I have
helped train succeed,
become certified, and
become leaders

ometimes the most ordinary
moments can illuminate a
life or career path. For Karen
Bachman, COE, COMT,
OCS, ROUB, it was an ophthalmology appointment in
Scranton, Pa. "A month later, I
received a call from the ophthalmologist offering me a job as a receptionist
because I seemed 'perky,'" Bachman
said. "The rest is history!"
The "rest" includes multiple
career milestones and achievements,
including a personal highlight: serving as ASOA President this year.
"My main mission is to respond
to our members' needs," she said.
"Our Board wants to help members
stay current and informed, and to
feel we are approachable and there
for them."
Bachman hopes ASOA members
will take advantage of the opportunities to meet, communicate,
collaborate, and get involved.
Meanwhile, she's counting on the
Board to serve members by enhancing opportunities for professional
development and by representing
the membership in legislative efforts
that impact the healthcare industry.
"We are their advocates," Bachman said, "and member satisfaction
will be a top priority." AE
