RUNNING THE PRACTICE // ADVICE
XXXXXXXFOR NEW ADMINISTRATORS

INTRODUCING THE ADMINISTRATOR BEGINNERS CIRCLE-

THE GO-TO RESOURCE FOR NEW ADMINISTRATORS

ew to ophthalmic administration? Not sure where
to go for resources or how
to prioritize your ever-increasing job duties? If
you've been an ophthalmic
practice administrator for
4 years or less, please know this
article was written just for you!
WHY
The world of medicine has been
changing at unparalleled rates
over the past decade. In addition to our everyday duties of
training employees, monitoring
receivables, implementing EHRs,
maintaining compliance, stabilizing cash flow, negotiating contracts and recruiting physicians,
ophthalmic administrators' daily
challenges continue to expand.
Nowadays, our to-do lists seem
never ending, the demands of
the job are ever evolving, and the
already highly regulated environment we live in is getting even
more challenging to navigate.

AE // Mar/Apr 18

These demands can certainly
feel overwhelming to someone at
any stage in their career; however,
they can seem absolutely paralyzing to someone new to this profession. This is why the Administrator Beginners Circle (ABC)
group was born-to provide
resources and direction in hopes
of helping green administrators
ripen to become the leaders their
practices need them to be.
WHAT
Check out some of the resources that ABC has made available
to you:
ABC website page. ABC has
a dedicated page on the ASOA
website. Here, you'll be able to filter
available resources by type (for example, AE magazine, Friday Focus
Poll, etc.) and category (for example, Ophthalmic Basics, Financial
Management, HR, Healthcare
Compliance, Benchmarking, etc.).
Filtering will allow you to find the
resources that are most applicable

to you at any point in your ophthalmic leadership journey.
New administrator checklist.
Also on the ABC page, you'll find
the New Administrator Checklist.
This downloadable checklist was
designed by expert consultants
and seasoned administrators who
wanted to develop a resource they
wish they'd had when they were new
to the profession. Designed to assist
with onboarding a new (or newly
promoted) ophthalmic administrator, the checklist provides a
roadmap for you to follow in the
first days, weeks, and months after
taking your new position. It also
suggests ideas for long-term goals,
so that you keep your focus as you
mature in your new role. Other
checklist tabs identify must-read
books, educational resources, and
apps to help you continue to learn,
grow, and develop as an ophthalmic leader. Since it's available as
a spreadsheet, you'll be able to
customize content as needed,
keeping the checklist relevant and
