Join our celebrity auctioneers and fellow LAMP attendees
on Monday evening as we auction off outstanding deals on
top-rated speakers, powerful resources, vacation homes, and
more. Then head out to enjoy the Celebration of Excellence

look for the LAMP '14 app and on-site program.

New Year's resolutions usually have short life spans. In fact,
many gyms refer to their New Year's members - those soon
to be gone - as the "resolutionaries."
Instead of making resolutions, accomplish something truly
revolutionary in 2014 - increase your personal energy level.
Tony Schwartz, CEO of the Energy Project, offers six
simple strategies to help you boost your energy1, and adding
even one of them to your daily routine can lift your energy
significantly.

the advisor's Future

advisor 2020 - Sponsored exclusively by
naiFa
Shortly after the GAMA Foundation introduced Firm 2020 in
2013, firm leaders began asking for a similar resource to
share with their advisors.
So now, in 2014, we bring you Advisor 2020! Its
extensive range of trends and forecasts will help your
advisors clearly envision their business at the end of this
decade. Advisor 2020 will very likely:
Spark new ideas about the advisor practice
■ Inspire creative thinking about the work advisors do
and the value it provides
■ Help advisors consider where their practice can best
grow and excel in the coming years

■

■

■

■

Advisor 2020 is based on the same trends and research
findings as Firm 2020 to ensure that field leaders and their
advisors are closely aligned as they explore their common
business futures. Advisor 2020 will be available at LAMP '14
in Nashville.
For more information on the GAMA Foundation's research
projects, email Kathryn Kellam, CEO, at kathryn@

achieving Success for advisors

the Road to the Bountiful Life
It seems it's the Year of the Advisor! Also being introduced at
LAMP '14 is a powerful new book by Harry P. Hoopis, CLU
ChFC, written specifically for advisors. The Road to the
Bountiful Life will inspire, coach, and challenge your advisors
to elevate their businesses and enrich their lives.
Harry has generously donated The Road to the Bountiful Life
and all of its proceeds to the GAMA Foundation for Education
and Research.

Make sufficient sleep your highest priority. Schwartz
offers two methods to ensure you get enough sleep:
l Begin winding down 30 to 45 minutes before your
bedtime. Avoid activities like answering email;
instead, read or take a warm bath.
l Alternatively, review and then write down anything
that's worrying you. That will effectively park your
concerns so they don't keep you awake.
Take a renewal break at least every 90 minutes. With
your eyes closed, breathe in through your nose to a
count of three, and out through your mouth slowly to a
count of six. As your body quiets down, so will your
mind, and you'll begin to feel more relaxed.
Keep a running list of everything that you want or
need to do. By unloading everything that's on your
mind, you'll spend less energy trying to remember your
list, and you'll be more fully focused on what you're
doing.
Run up your heart rate - or take a nap - in the early
afternoon.
l If taking a run or going to a gym is too timeconsuming, take a brisk 15- to 30-minute walk
outside. If you're in an office building, walk up and
down the stairs a few times.
l Cat naps are extremely restorative, but if that isn't
possible for you, then just close your eyes for a few
minutes during the early afternoon. It will increase
your energy during the hours that follow.
Practice appreciation - and savor small victories. At
least once a day, identify an opportunity to appreciate
someone in your life. When you share your
appreciation with that person, it will energize you
both. (Some top executives write and mail three
thank-you notes every day!) Pause daily to appreciate
yourself as well, and savor your small victories.
Develop a transition ritual between work and home.
For both you and your family, it's important that you be
fully present when you get home from work.
Disengage from work by listening to pleasant music,
doing simple muscle-relaxation exercises, or reflecting
on the three best things that happened to you that day.
