M ARgAREt “P Eg ” L EWIS C HRIStENSEN ’52
A proud member of the Class of 1952, Margaret “Peg” Lewis Christensen was honored at the annual Alumnae and Alumni Luncheon as the 2010 Excellence in Service to Hood College award recipient. Peg earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Hood and went on to receive a master’s degree in education administration from Columbia University in 1964. She began her career in New York City and even delved into the world of higher education as a news director at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., and as an alumnae director at Briarcliff College in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. Wherever Peg traveled, her connections to Hood—and the invaluable education she received—helped shape the person she became. For Peg, it was important to incorporate her passion for music into her personal as well as her professional life. While serving as a program director for Huntington Arts Council in Long Island, N.Y., where she produced live musical performances, Peg participated in church and musical activities and served on the boards of concert associations and choral societies. While much of her energy has been devoted to the music community, Peg has also faithfully and conscientiously supported her alma mater year after year. She is a member of the Pergola Society, which recognizes

alumni and friends who name Hood as a beneficiary of their wills or planned gift. Peg has served as a fund agent and a reunion fund and planned giving chair, reminding classmates of the importance of giving back and making a difference in the lives of Hood students. She contributed to Hood’s centennial campaign and is a consistent annual fund donor. Most recently, Peg established the Margaret Loudon Lewis endowed scholarship. Named in honor of her mother, the scholarship will serve as a continuous testament to Peg’s loyalty to Hood and the education she cherishes, and will benefit many Hood students who follow in her footsteps.
