12 Student-Athletes Inducted Into Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society
The athletic department welcomed 12 new inductees and three returning honorees into the 2010 class of Chi Alpha Sigma, the nation’s first student-athlete honor society, in a ceremony at the Marx Center May 2. Nine juniors and three seniors comprised the 2010 induction class, representing the second Hood class to earn this prestigious honor. Inductees must maintain at least a 3.4 cumulative grade point average as a juniors or seniors and have earned a varsity letter in their sports. Juniors: Kelsey Blackwell, a three-year letterwinner on the lacrosse team and management major; Katelyn Bramkamp, a three-year member of the field hockey team and management major; Olauluwa Komolafe, a three-year runner on the track and field team and computer science major; Derrick Kuhn, a three-year letterwinner on the soccer team and mathematics major; Kayla Murphy, a three-year member of the track and field team and communication arts major; Bridgette Ringley, a two-year member of the softball team who also lettered in basketball and biochemistry major; Kristina Straub, a three-year member of the volleyball team and management major; Phillip Yerby, a three-year member of the tennis team and communication arts major; Krista Zerby, a letterwinner on the track and field and softball teams and history major. Seniors: Emily Brownlee, a two-year member of the cross country team and environmental science and policy major; Christopher Moreland, a two-year member of the swim team and management major; Brandy Noel, a two-sport athlete and four-year starter in field hockey and lacrosse and elementary/ special education major. 2009 Inductees Recognized in 2010: Adam Gilbert, a four-year member of the soccer team and computer science major; Laura Hines, a four-year member of the soccer team and mathematics major; Jessica Stanley, a four-year member of the track and field team and social work major.

Athletes Earn All-Conference Honors
Ten student-athletes earned all-Capital Athletic Conference certificates this spring. Hood’s six track and field standouts garnered their awards by virtue of their first or second-place finishes at the CAC championship meet, while the tennis and softball honorees were chosen by a vote of the league’s head coaches. Senior Award Winners Announced
The Athletic Department paid tribute to 45 graduating seniors from 18 varsity teams and one club team at the Whitaker Campus Center May 2. Nine outstanding senior student-athletes were presented with departmental honors in seven categories. Coach’s Awards: Shawn Fernholz, soccer; and Erica Hamor, swimming and track and field Dean’s Award: Carlin Rabie, soccer and swimming Kim Servedio Award: Lauren Perzan, field hockey and lacrosse President’s Award: Jessica Stanley, track and field Scholar-Athlete Award: Laura Hines, soccer Trustees’ Award: Danielle Hunt, tennis Most Outstanding Student-Athlete Awards: William Andrews, cross country and track and field; and Brandy Noel, field hockey and lacrosse

DiGangi, Reitman, Noel Named to Academic All-District Teams
Three student-athletes were recognized for academic and athletic excellence during the spring season. Brandy Noel ’10 of the field hockey and lacrosse teams, Christopher DiGangi ’12 of the men’s track and field team and Carter Reitman ’12 of the men’s tennis team were all selected to ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District II Teams in their respective sports. Based on a vote by sports information directors across the region, DiGangi and Reitman were named to the all-district second team and Noel was selected as an all-district third team honoree. To be nominated for this award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale at his or her current institution.

CAC Lauds Hood’s Largest Class of All-Academic Team Honorees
The Capital Athletic Conference announced that a school record 65 Hood student-athletes were named to the 2009-10 CAC all-academic team for maintaining at least a 3.2 grade point average throughout the academic year. The women’s track and field team led the way with eight members, while men’s soccer and men’s lacrosse came in a close second with seven honorees apiece. Additionally, 35 student-athletes were multiple-year honorees in this exclusive club.
