NOTES FROM NLGI
The NLGI 83rd Annual Meeting was held June 11-14,
2016, at the historic Omni Homestead Resort in Hot
Springs, Virginia. Over 460 people attended, with a third
of the registrants from more than 16 non-U.S. countries
including the U.K., Austria, France, Germany, Sweden,
Italy, the Netherlands, Greece, Canada, Mexico, Australia,
China, Japan and Thailand. For the first time this year,
attendees from Vietnam were also welcomed.
Keynote speaker Graham Gow (recently retired from
Axel Christiernsson International AB) gave a humorous
and enlightening talk about his 40 years of experience
in lubricants and tribology. Gow's presentation included
excerpts from his new book, Amazing Grease, along with
wonderful pictures and personal stories about his career
and the many friends he made along the way.
Twenty-one technical presentations were given, including
an informative Industrial Greases: Market Analysis and
Opportunities by Annie Jarquin, director of energy for the
Kline Group, and the NLGI India Chapter award-winning
paper, Synthesis and Characterization of Mixed Thickener
Containing Greases for Bearing Applications by Sathwik
Chatra K.R. of SKF Technologies India Pvt. Ltd.
Highlights of the awards presentations included the NLGI
Fellow Award given to Jaime Spagnoli of ExxonMobil for
his many years of contribution to the NLGI Educations
Courses and the Clarence E. Earle Memorial Award to
Andy Waynick of NCH for his outstanding contribution
to the technical literature relating to lubricating greases
in 2015.
The 2017 NLGI Annual Meeting will be held June 10-13,
2017, at the Resort at Squaw Creek (Lake Tahoe area),
Olympic Valley, California. Dates and locations of future
