The Association will continue to work on tax reform,
Affordable Care Act reform and the renegotiation of the
North American Free Trade Agreement.
Croghan also wants to focus on the ILMA Foundation
during his tenure as president. Over the past 17 years,
ILMA has awarded nearly $400,000 in college scholarships
to 155 students. Of these, 90 have graduated and 28 continue to receive funding and work toward their degrees. The
scholarships have been one means of attracting people to the
industry, and Croghan said he'd like to see the Association
do more. "We need to try and figure out a way to invite
more youth into the business," he said. "This industry is ideal for people who like to work with people. This is a business
where people really do conduct business with people."
Expanding industry research and education through the
ILMA Foundation could help attract more people to the
industry. "The foundation is made up of past presidents. You
have a lot of knowledge and history and strength on that
task force," he said.
Networking will also remain a priority, which taps into the
Association's roots. "ILMA's real start was based on a networking session and a small group of members that worked together and utilized the meetings for the benefit of collaborating
and finding new opportunities to do business," Croghan said.
"We want to keep the old networking characteristics, but also
say, 'These are the resources we have today.'"
For Croghan, the annual meeting remains a time to
connect with other people in the industry. "I have truly
benefitted from ILMA meetings. I have gone to them for
the past 15 years because of the networking," he said, adding
that he'll have three full days at the annual event with meetings scheduled every half hour. "We see our customers and
our suppliers. That networking piece is still, to me, one of
the biggest values we need to exploit at ILMA."
Outside of Maxum and ILMA, Croghan enjoys time with
his family, whether it's traveling, heading to sporting events
or down to Huntington Beach, California, for surfing, fishing
or just relaxing. In the spring, Croghan spends a lot of time
coaching his son's Little League baseball team, which he has
done for the past six years. His son, Gavin, excels in baseball,
football and soccer. His daughter, Lainey, is a freshman in
high school and plays on the varsity soccer team. "Both of my
kids are exceptional athletes," he said. "Becky, my wife, and I
spend pretty much every weekend at the fields."
