CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE
"The everyday diligent efforts of my parents are still with me
today. They are the reason I was able to develop and operate a
successful, medium-sized manufacturing and sales company.
"There were many ups and downs growing up. I took the ups
in stride and figured out how to turn the downs into something good. The one thing that has been prevalent throughout
my career is change. I was always quick to recognize and work
with changes in the market, pricing, personnel - both inside
the company and outside with suppliers and customers - as
necessary. I always worked hard and spent more time than
most to figure out the best, most productive ways to successfully complete projects. I did not outwardly express the
complexity of many projects. I just came up with the answer
and implemented the effort to arrive at the results."

A GRANDFATHER'S WORK ETHIC
"My grandfather was a carpenter and he worked hard every
day to get the job done without complaining. You take life
and work as they come and figure out how to make the most
of each situation. I know each phase of a job needs to be
completed, regardless of time or difficulty. I have a plaque
near my desk and it is my motivation to complete every job.
Paraphrasing Winston Churchill, it reads: 'Never, never, never,
never give up.'"

A DEDICATED LIFE
"While attending college and ever since, my life has been
dedicated to the lubricant industry. I did not realize at the
time that the lubricant industry would be the primary focus in
continuing education and employment. I started work with my
parents and their small company with three other employees,
then spent the next 64 years growing the company."

"I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and now live in San Antonio,
Texas, but my most memorable traveling experiences were
spent across a number of cities in Mexico while traveling on
business. San Antonio is celebrating its 300-year anniversary
in 2018, which is pretty long-lived in its own right, but I realized
on my trips that these cities are much older. History is intriguing to me, so I was enamored with Mexico's rich history from
the days of conquerors and pyramids still prevalent throughout their country. Interestingly, the pyramids in Mexico were
built during the same era as pyramids in the Middle East and
even share similar construction techniques."

A FAMILIAL PERSPECTIVE
"Family is very important to me. I grew up with my parents,
grandparents and sister - we did everything together. Our
financial resources were meager, but we were always happy
and felt fortunate to have a good life. My sister and I did not
realize we grew up in a poor environment.
"That close sense of family has continued with me throughout the years, and now I am a grandfather with close ties to
my existing family. Also, many of my employees were extended family dedicated to the company and worked tirelessly
to help me make the company into a larger, more successful
company.
"My peers and I are always talking about work. As a result,
my wife, Cathy, thinks my peers would be surprised to realize
how sensitive I am outside of work."
