no. 27 Short List Letter Press Asked to create a wayfinding and environmental graphics program for Guardian News & Media’s London offices— and working in the spirit of minimizing environmental impact—Cartlidge Levene (London) crafted a playful, colorful signage system out of cardboard. For the office’s primary identity signage, Cartlidge Levene had fun with the logotypes of the company’s flagship publications, the Guardian and the Observer. Threedimensional cardboard letters are perched atop colorful poles, the letters pushed forward and back to create an optical dynamism. Elsewhere in the offices, wayfinding signs are cardboard tubes with the ends exposed to show their fluted edges. Inspired by the design of the newspaper, Cartlidge Levene leveraged the Guardian Egyptian font and the corporate color palette throughout the system.
