Marilu Wood wrote that her news is all “in process.” Maybe she will have something—like a book—to report for the next issue. We’ll have to keep posted. In April Judy Lehman Ballinger visited Cheryl Wray Kirk at her lovely new home in Ocean Pines, on the Eastern Shore. Cheryl and husband Gene, now both fully retired, took Judy and her fiancé Blair on a picnic surprise. They ended up on nearby Assateague with the wild ponies. Cheryl says she loves jumping into waves with grandson Lucas and canoeing with her husband. She also visits her mother diligently at a nearby nursing home and shares Mary Eberline’s observation that dementia can be a gift, easing anxiety and allowing one to be happy. Cheryl’s younger son Phil and family have just moved from Michigan to take a job at the Univ. of Delaware, bringing her youngest grandson close enough for frequent visits. On New Year’s Eve she met up with Margo Emrich Trexler. Judy Lehman Ballinger has been playing phone tag with Pam Higginbottom Carey to get advice about a gift bucket of oysters from the Delaware Bay. Judy has also experienced some shifts in her life. Last November her mother moved into an assisted living complex and she began to split her time between Cape May and Millville, N.J., where her fiancé lives. She has a private studio there that she uses for silk painting and bookmaking. Her daughters and grandkids are on each coast. She has the pleasure of monthly visits with grandson David of Philadelphia but seeing granddaughter Ayla of San Francisco is a semi-annual treat. She looks forward to having everyone together on the beach in August. Barbara Morgan Herron is finally getting back to “normal” after a surprisingly debilitating encounter with Lyme Disease in 2006-07. Barb is still working at the Baltimore Metropolitan Council and helps husband Craig with film and video projects. She’s made Regencyperiod costumes for one project and recently helped with 1950s costumes, hair, props and sets for a soon-to-be-funded (she hopes) feature film. Her mom recently turned 87 and is living in a retirement community just a few minutes away. Barb enjoys keeping up with Angela Milea Mogin and Laurie Seymour Carlson on Facebook and would love to connect with other classmates.
