I (Marcelle Doll) am excited to share news from some of our classmates from near and far. Recently my job changed and I have started to travel for work around the Northeast and Canada working with teachers and children who are English language learners, so I am looking forward to meeting up with some old Hood friends again. Sarah Boughter White received her nursing degree in 2007 and became a registered nurse in February 2008. She has been working at an assisted living facility in Frederick (and loving it), while caring for its elderly residents. Janel Holmes McAteer and her husband Jeff had a daughter Julianna Louise Jan. 26, 2006, and were blessed with a son Jack Burke Jan. 23, 2009. Three years, three days apart. Kara Borsdam Chandeysson and her husband Mark are now living in Charlottesville, Va., and had their second baby boy Aug. 26, 2008, named Davis Mackle. Michelle Mutter Bowers M.A. ’95 shared great news about her work and several of our fellow classmates. Michelle is working at Frederick Memorial Hospital as one of the emergency department’s social workers and also as a family advocate with the Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland, an organ and tissue donor organization. Michelle and her husband Ron have three children—Catherine will be 5 this month, Emma is almost 3 and Elizabeth Carolina who was born March 15, 2008, and was coached by Grace MacEwen-Vendemia through labor. Grace and her husband have been blessed by her two children Brian, 5, and Sarah, 2. She also shared that she had dinner recently with Laura Eklof-Bower and Joanie Cooper-Gerber. Laura has three girls and Joanie has two boys! As for me, I (Jewel Smith) enjoyed a Hood reunion of sorts in late May. Jacki Resop Amato ’95, Emma Frederick King ’95, Kim Unseld ’95, Quicha Tresvant Withrow and I got together Memorial Day weekend— nothing like good food, good friends and good conversation. And I’m headed to Cairo, Egypt, in June to visit with fellow Hood alum Adelaide Vaal da Silva ’98. Photos will be up on Facebook! Thanks for the updates. Keep them coming. Our condolences to Christie Spencer Katora whose grandmother Mary Herb McCrea ’38 died Feb. 10, 2009, in Newville, Pa. Our sympathy to the family of The Honorable Jack Kemp H ’96 who died May 2, 2009, in Bethesda, Md. Stephanie Sheck Bahr sends greeting from Corpus Christi, Texas. This is the third time the Navy has sent the Barr family there. They are hoping to escape it once again this fall or possibly next spring. She’s been able to connect with several other Hood alums via Facebook—Minny Byrd Frank, Stephanie Hull, Elisha Fridley Hawk, Alesia Gallego Brand ’97 and some other Hood gals. Nadya Marville Briggs recently ﬁnished her master’s in psychology and is currently working as an academic leadership coach at a Henrico County elementary school. She resides in Richmond, Va., with her husband and two children. Jennifer Blake Bice and her husband Stan have adopted a new baby boy. Corey Michael came home March 27. Corey Michael was born Jan. 14, 2009. Jennifer has been hanging out with Corey at home these days. Congratulations Jennifer! Kimberly Steele Estell and family welcomed their second child, another son, Calum Forester May 19, 2009. He was 8 pounds, 15.6 ounces, and 20 inches long. So far he’s a very easy baby and they are all quite thrilled by him. Congratulations Kim! Melissa Reynolds Rice M.A. ’99 and husband had their third child Chase Michael Dec. 19, 2008. He joins big sister Victoria and big brother Nathaniel. Congratulations Melissa! Trevia-Lynne Carrigan Colwell M.S. ’04 has moved.
