This year’s graduates—those with newly minted bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees— are moving on and moving up in the world. Here is where some of them are going: Outstanding Master’s Degree Recipients The following are nine of the 11 master’s degree recipients recognized as outstanding graduates by their departments. Ruth Allwardt – M.S. in reading specialization, now a reading specialist Richard Biser – M.A. in human sciences, pursuing a doctoral degree Nita Hines – M.A. in humanities, adjunct instructor at Montgomery College Nicole Hoffman – M.S. in biomedical science, working as a regulatory affairs specialist for the National Cancer Institute David Perlowski – M.S. in computer and information sciences, information technology concentration, continues his work with the Department of Defense and Homeland Security Nikki Rudy – M.S. in curriculum and instruction, working as an interpreter for the deaf Michael Watson – M.S. in educational leadership, continues work with middle school science William Watson – M.S. in computer science, working as a product support analyst for MICROS Xiaojing Zhang – M.B.A., will pursue a career in financial management Ashley Nick (communication arts major, management minor) – will be working as a communications representative at Bechtel Corp. William Oconis (economics major) – will be working as a research assistant for the Federal Reserve. Katie Podson (elementary/special education major) – will be working as a special education teacher with Howard County (Md.) Public Schools. Stephanie Tomasello (mathematics major, music minor) – will be working as a software engineer at Harris Corporation and a recipient of the National Security Scholarship Program. Laura Wanner (biology major, chemistry minor) – will be working in a lab at United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases. Graduate Schools Jennifer Anderson (law and society major, history minor) – was accepted at St. Thomas University School of Law, Miami, Fla. Abby Brackins (French and math major) – will pursue a mathematics doctorate at either the University of Iowa or the University of Nebraska. Candace Butler (economics and management major) – accepted to Loyola College (Md.), the University of Baltimore, Towson University and Tulane. She also has a job offer from the Booz Allen Hamilton Consulting Group. Amy Dean (art and archaeology major, concentration in art history) – will begin her master’s degree studies in art history at American University in the fall. Amanda Jimenez (English major) – will attend graduate school at Emerson College in Boston, Mass., in the MFA program. Arielle John (economics major, math minor) – will be pursuing her doctorate in economics at George Mason University. Erika Molina (political science and Spanish major) – will be attending Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall in New Jersey. She is a PLEN graduate. Lindsey Nagy (economics and math major) – will attend the University of Arizona to pursue a doctorate in economics. Candice Pfiester (chemistry major) – will be attending Shenandoah University to pursue a master of science in physician assistant studies degree. Vanya Slavchevska (economics major, math minor) – will attend the University of Pittsburgh to pursue a doctorate in economics. Elizabeth M. Thompson (English and philosophy major) – will be attending The George Washington University’s Columbian College of Arts and Sciences to study sociocultural anthropology. Undergraduate Recipients Krystle Austin (economics and law and society major) – will be working for Frederick County Office of Economic Development and will be entering the Peace Corps in October and serving in Africa. Elizabeth Barr (elementary/special education major) – will be working as a special education teacher with Montgomery County (Md.) Public Schools. Dana Benson (biology major, chemistry minor) – will be working for Advance Product Enterprises. Justin Burall (management major) – will be working with a consulting firm as a federal contractor at Fort Detrick. Yael Guillaume (management major with a concentration in marketing) – will be a marketing assistant with Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Nick Gunther (biology major, chemistry minor) – will be working with LONZA, a biotech firm in Walkersville, Md. Lisa Lewis (mathematics and interdepartmental: classical studies major) – internship at Constellation Energy in Baltimore. Christa Lundskow (mathematics major, physics minor) – will be working for the Department of the Navy as a civilian and mathematician with the Office of Naval Intelligence.
