Our sympathy also to Gertrude Hartung Gilman whose husband Mark died Oct. 10, 2007; and to Nancy Dawson Smith whose husband Richard died Oct. 12, 2007, in Memphis, Tenn. 1943 for her condo. They are doing some reconstruction to the condo at present and it keeps Maxie on her toes. Marry Ann Eddington Horsey is still in Daytona Beach Shores. Her health has greatly improved over the last year. She still uses a walker, but who doesn’t? We hope to get together next month. Talked with Marty Brown Gibson. Sadly she reported the death of her husband Dale. He died last September quite unexpectedly. They had been married 60 years. Flo Brooke Miller is still in her home and has caregivers come in daily to see to her needs. She too uses a walker. Dottie Ford Krieger and husband Bill are still at home in Arnold, Md. They do physical therapy several times a week. They are active in work with the church. Ethel Libbey Page is living in Baltimore in a retirement center. She is in charge of giving book reports on a regular monthly schedule. She is close to her family and grandchildren. I have put in a miserable two months recovering from hip surgery. I had an old artificial one taken out and replaced with another. Recovery has been slow but is picking up speed now. 401 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21701 or e-mail her at mcelroy@hood.edu. I’ll get my new address out to you as soon as I know it. 1947 Catharine Smith Dunn 1410 Stokes Park Road Bethlehem, PA 18017 (610) 691-5653 kittysmithdunn@yahoo.com Our condolences to the families of Margaret Pickell Smith who died Nov. 14, 2007; June Correll Hilbert who died Nov. 29, 2007, in Ridgewood, N.J.; Corinne Skell Smith who died May 14, 2007, in Baltimore; and Louise Samuel Harper who died April 20, 2008, in Glen Ellyn, Ill. Our sympathy also to Margaret Benson Jamieson whose husband Ronald died Dec. 12, 2007. Three cheers for cell phones! I used my new one to get some news from people we haven’t heard from in awhile. Thanks to all who responded. Audrey Callaway Asbury is looking forward to a trip to the Greek Islands in September. Meanwhile, she keeps up with grandkids—a music theory professor, an accountant working for a CPA, a freshman at Virginia Tech and one who is graduating from high school this year. She lunches with Frederick friends—Renie Quynn Collmus, Betty Grissinger and Eleanor Sigler Gilbert most recently. Nancy Childs Knobloch is still busy with choir and bell choir at her church, teaching preschool “special” children weekly. She sees Jane MacDougall and expects to see Elizabeth Geiser in Denver when she visits her daughter there. Elizabeth Geiser did retire from her main job last year, but is still teaching two courses to future writers and publishers. We had a great chat about politics and she told me about posting signs for her father who ran for Congress when she was 10 in Easton, which is close to where I live! Julie Allen Hancock has had thyroid problems and has slowed down a bit, but is a write—letters to the editor, Christmas letters and now her memoirs! Lorraine Kersey Moore had a fall resulting in some broken ribs, but it hasn’t kept her from teaching English to an Albanian couple for the third year, traveling to Atlanta to visit their youngest son, AND still playing tennis! Any challengers? I had a nice chat with Peggy Lashinsky Thompson, who lives in Prescott, Ariz. She has a daughter living in Tucson, and a son who is a lawyer living in Washington, D.C. Her husband has a heart condition so they don’t travel much. Aline Negrotto Reinert, living in St. Louis, enjoys the retirement community she and Owen live in. They had an enjoyable trip to Florida and then to New Orleans, where they saw the slow reconstructing of the city. They have a granddaughter, a college sophomore, who took a year off to volunteer in a preschool and a church in Tanzania. Renie Quynn Collmus went to Germany with daughter Betsy, and on her return, will vacation with some friends at Fenwick Island, Del. Before that, she went Please send your news directly to Tammy McElroy ’05, Associate Director of Alumni Relations, Hood College, 401 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21701-8575; (301) 696-3977 or to hoodmagcnews@hood.edu. Our condolences to the families of Elizabeth Hollis Steele who died Jan. 13, 2008; and Eileen Nelson Puffer who died Nov. 22, 2007. Our sympathy also to Sally Bernkopf Frank whose husband Howard died June 27, 2004. 1945 Georgia Dyer Burnett 7101 Bay Front Drive, Apt. 225 Annapolis, MD 21403 (410) 216-6645 No news this issue. 1946 1944 V. Jean Wheatley Hilchuk 180 Landover Place, Apt. 374 Longwood, FL 32750 (407) 767-6863 jhilchuk@aol.com Condolences to the families of Camille Woods Logue who died Sept. 27, 2007; and Lt. Cmdr. Barbara Gilmore, USNR, Ret., who died April 25, 2007. Shirley Conner Hardinge was in the midst of moving back to Maryland from Florida, where she winters in the winter months. I am sure she was glad to have been here during this winter as it was so cold up north. Janet Colbentz Cover lives in a retirement center in the independent living section, as so many of our classmates are doing now. She stated that Ginny Hendrickson lives in one of the cottages. Millie Easterbrook Patzig and husband Pat keep busy with their volunteer activities in the church and community. I missed seeing them since I gave my timeshare up there to my daughter. So we keep in touch by phone. Talked with Betty Pickell Cleaver in Durham, N.C. She has been retired many years now, but is close to her family. She lives in a nice condo which is all on one level. Her nine grandsons live nearby. Roberta Maxwell Gilfillan is still in Lake Worth, Fla. She keeps busy with church work and the needed guidance Jane Seymour Wilson 2921 Deer Hollow Way, #411 Fairfax, VA 22031-6044 jw101224@cox.net “I’ve gone back to Hood!,” Ellie Lewenberg Frank writes from Florida. It seems her granddaughter Rachel Haduch is in the class of ’11. Ellie has had exciting visits to Hood with her granddaughter and was impressed with the new state-of-the-art buildings and “shock above shock, boys on campus. She loves it; I love having her there.” Ellie concludes, “I’m very proud of my alma mater.” Our hearts go out to Eleanor Brown Buck Osborne who recently lost a daughter to cancer. Her husband also died, and Eleanor lives alone, still in Belair where she was enjoying “a beautiful spring” when we talked. To get in touch with her, use her e-mail address: elebrobucos@ verizon.net. Evelyn Stup Orndorff summed up her situation in one sentence: “After my husband’s three surgeries we are happy about his recovery and are both enjoying our family and each new day.” Our condolences to the family of Jane Young Kennedy who died Dec. 2, 2007. Because we are in the midst of trying to sell our condo in a bad real estate market, I have not gone hunting for news this time around. This fall we hope to be settled in at Ashby Ponds, a retirement residence now under construction in Ashburn, Va. Meanwhile, send your news to Tammy McElroy ’05 at the alum office at Hood:
