You’ll remember Juanita as the only 40+ year old student we knew ever to be granted permission to live on campus! Juanita graduated with a degree in gerontology and her touching obituary is available on our class yahoo group Web site: http://groups.yahoo.com/ group/Hood_College_Class_of_1986/. On to news! Sue Auger Manory wrote that they have moved to Deerfield Academy in Mass., where her husband Joe is CFO. Sue stays busy with her boys Will, 11, and Drew, 8, and their outdoor activities and sports. Mike Birmingham retired from the Army in January after 21 years, 7 months and 14 days active duty, and is the chief of media relations for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Margaret Bushwaller Powers lives in Massachusetts with her policeman husband Phil, daughter Julia, 11, and two stepchildren, Philip, 16, and Kourtney, 19. Margaret recently spent time with Ann Barry Mitchell ’87 and Eleanor Chisholm Landauer and had a great time. Josie Espino Calix and her husband Jose are both teachers in York County, Pa. Her oldest son Jose just returned from a 2-year mission to Brazil and is now in college in Utah. Her twins are also in college—Anna Lisa is at York College and Juan Andres is at NYU. Jose also shared that she is now a proud grandmother. Things are well in the Calix family! Eleanor Henry Linnan writes that she is now retired with a son in Indianapolis, a daughter in Alaska, a daughter in Kalamazoo and twin great-grandsons, Hunter and Baylor. She sends her love to all. Chris Hom Wilson reports that she just returned from an incredible trip to Shanghai and Beijing in time to prep for older son Sam’s graduation from middle school. Lisa O’Brien Henriques’ daughter, Elisabeth will graduate from high school and will attend Chatham Univ. this fall. Exciting! Julie Phebus Menke reports that her last child is getting ready to apply to medical school, she’s working for three dentists in her area and her husband works for Del Webb Communities. Betsy Reed Ringel shares that her kids are in Chad 11th, Elise 7th and Caroline 4th grades and she’s busy with their activities of soccer, cheerleading and football! Gemmi Teleki de Szek Revay still lives in Austria with her 3-year-old-son Arpad and husband Janos, loving the farming life of wife and mother! Joanne Ulsh Rose wrote in to share that sadly, after a four-year battle with kidney cancer, her husband Milas Rose died in January 2007. His journey of remarkable experiences left her a widow after 13 years of marriage. A series of incredible coincidences happened that led her to marry Lance Blevins as she found love once more. Joanne would love to hear from any classmates—please e-mail me for her contact information. Elvy Viera shares that her oldest daughter Mariana will graduate high school and attend college this fall. Elvy also will be in school, pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership. Way to go, Elvy! As for me, I will send my older son Drew off to join the Hood College class of 2012 in August! My younger son Evan will be a junior in high school this fall and keeps us hopping between volleyball, travel lacrosse and his busy social life. As I meant to report last time, my multiple sclerosis continues to hold steady, for which I am most grateful. It’s the support of my friends and family that I believe keeps me moving in the right direction! 1987 also take every opportunity to go to Italy to test the latest in espresso. Tara Cannava Clouse has been training hard for the past 6 months for Ironman Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) June 22. This is her first major athletic event since Nick and Natalie were born in 2003. With work and mom duties, she has to be creative about training and the long winter hasn’t helped. Go Tara! Tara also has time to see Susan Brunner Briddell ’86, who lives 90 minutes away on Whidbey Island. They just did the Whidbey Island half marathon together last month. Ibi Teleki Sofillas has been married to her husband Dino for 19 years. She has three wonderful children—16 (a driver and looking for colleges), 15 (the sports guy) and 11 (her baby girl). They live in Clarksburg, Md., where Ibi is a real estate broker of MyRealtyTeam Real Estate and is licensed in Maryland., D.C. and Virginia. She has been in the profession for more than 20 years and still loves it. She’d love to hear from friends and her e-mail is: ibi@myrealtyteam. com. Greg Day was promoted to associate professor of religion at Mount Olive College in Mount Olive, N.C. He also serves as campus minister at Mount Olive College and is the interim Pastor of Calypso Baptist Church in Calypso, N.C. As for my news, if you have tweens you know that “High School Musical 3” is coming out in October. It is being filmed in Salt Lake City into June and we live about a mile from the real East High School. I signed up to be an extra with some friends and we were actually called in! We had a great 28-hour on-set experience over two days with the cast and crew filming a basketball game scene. It was fun and exhausting and we’re excited to see if we make it into the movie! Look for me I’ll be the one in red cheering on the Wildcats—with 300 other people! Hope everyone has a great summer and don’t forget to contact me with updates. Congratulations to Molly Reeder Chamberlain and Doug who welcomed twin sons Thomas and Charles into the world Oct. 2, 2007. Our condolences to Patricia Bizink Abell whose husband Ken died Sept. 17, 2007, after a three-year battle with lung cancer. Marcie Kendall Gibboney 1786 E.
