She was recently elected to the board of directors of the Western Division of the New York Sate Podiatric Medical Association and is currently in private practice in Cheektowaga, N.Y. She traveled to Albany May 6 to speak on behalf of podiatry during Legislative Day. Tracey Adams is currently employed as the senior assistant to the chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Although part time, she continues to work with horses and a year and half ago purchased a Morgan Mare named Laughter’s April Song (April for short). Tracy has returned to school and is working on the needed pre-requisites so that she can apply to nursing school. Congratulations to Erin Armbrester Lantz and Rob on the birth of their ﬁrst child, Jackson Elijah, who was born on May 5, 2007 in Bethesda, Md. Congratulations to Christina Collett Owens and her husband, Jeff, on their new home in Charles Town, W.V. Christina is currently a social worker at The Jefferson School and also continues with her Mary Kay Cosmetics consulting. In February of 2007, Nellie Daugherty became a ﬁrst-time grandmother to David Lee Hull. In November of that same year, she transferred to the Space and Navel Warfare Systems in San Diego, Calif. Nellie is also hoping to start graduate school in California. Kudos to Ruth Hurtado, who graduated with a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Maryland University College in May 2007. Jenifer Kilpatrick Dickson M.A. ’03 will begin her master of social work at Univ. Maryland Baltimore in the fall of 2008. She will be leaving her current position with Hospice and returning to the Mental Health Association so she can focus on being a full-time student. Congratulations to Jamie Kowzun Appenzeller and husband Jeremy on the birth of their son Tyler in March 2008. Congratulations are also in store for Jennifer Lidie Babu and Vino, who welcomed their son Nicholas Alan May 18, 2007, as well as Erica Miller Linden and husband Jeremy, whose daughter, Mairi Emilia Linden, was born Feb. 5, 2008. Congratulations to Valerie Peck Mackey, Ryan and big sister Paige on the arrival of Riley Elizabeth on May 14, 2007. The Mackey family currently resides in Duncansville, Pa. Heather Roth passed the July 2003 California Bar Exam after her graduation in May of 2003 from the Univ. of Wyoming College of Law. After completing her degree in the U.S., Heather went to Paris where she earned a LLM in French and European community law and beginning in January of 2005 she moved to Los Angeles, where she taught English in French at Berlitz. During her tenure at Berlitz, she had the opportunity to represent them as a French instructor on a cruise to Antarctica, Chile, Argentina and Jamaica. Heather currently resides in Glendale, Calif. and is currently working in insurance defense law. Congratulations to Marcella Simon Vander Eems, Tim and big sister Cassie on the birth of Benjamin Frenk William, who was born Nov. 27, 2006. Marcella and her husband are in their seventh year as their church’s youth group leaders, and continue their ministry by working with high school students. Rachel Solomon has been quite busy, earning a MS in education from The Johns Hopkins University in 2001. She then moved to London, where she worked for the law ﬁrm of Latham & Watkins in the accounting department. After London, Rachel spent two years at Montgomery Blair High School teaching math to 9th and 12th grade students. During this time, she successfully completed the Certiﬁed Public Accountancy exam. Most recently, Rachel graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and passed the Maryland Bar exam. She is now employed as a corporate attorney at the Shulman, Rogers Gandal, Pordy and Ecker, P.A., in Rockville, Md. Congratulations to Erika Soria Oliveira and Joaquim on the birth of their son Leonardo Antonio, born Aug. 6, 2007; he weighed in at 9 lbs. and was 20 inches long. Congratulations to Virginia Sparks Bonifant and Will who welcomed their second son, Aren Gregory, on Sept. 4, 2007. The Bonifant family has recently moved to Chadds Ford, Pa. Lara Wilson Girdler has accepted a position with MetLife as an assistant ﬁnancial planner and resides with her family in Wilmington, N.C. It’s my turn to report and I hope that everyone is doing well. I have ﬁnally ﬁnished my master’s degree at Arcadia Univ. It’s an individualized master’s of education with a leadership concentration. Karen Chan Norris graduated from Veterinary school at Coloradio State Univ. in May 2005. She married Eric Norris on June 10, 2006 and they live in Littleton, Colo. where Karen is an associate veterinarian for the Banﬁeld Pet Hospital. Yael Edelstein Shafer is excited to report that she married Justin Steven Shafer on Oct. 1, 2005, in Hood’s Chapel. They have settled into a home in Frederick, and can be reached at 6220 Mt. Phillip Rd., Frederick, MD 21703. Crystal Thompson writes that she has been working with the Peace Corps and USAID, which has taken her Madagascar for the past 31/2 years. She just began a contract with the Hygiene Improvement Project and plans on being in Madagascar until at least September 2008. Kelli Crown and Chris Ahern wed in October 2003 bridesmaids were Cerissa Saudarg ’99, Rita Zaledonis ’02 and Suzanne Benson ’00. They live in Lancaster, Pa., where Kelli works at a pre-school and Chris is employed as an accountant. They have one son, Liam Christopher who born May 15, 2007. Sylvia Proctor Kilpatrick and Alex welcomed twin boys, Braylen and Kellen into the world Dec. 22, 2007. Amy Markowski Best and husband Timothy would like to announce the birth of their second child, Levi Matthew, born Jan. 24, 2008. Big brother Mason welcomed him home and they are all adjusting to life as a family of four.
