Shanna M. Byrd M.A. ’07 is Washington County (Md.) Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year; Nancy Thorpe Kelley ’82, M.A. ’85 is Frederick County Public Schools’ 2008 Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher; Kristin MacNeill Jones ‘88 was Henrico County (Va.) Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year; and Kathy Tobery was named the Frederick County Public Schools’ 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year. Byrd, who is a second grade teacher at Funkstown School for Early Childhood Education, earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Hood in 2007. Kelley, who was one of 19 teachers from Maryland and Virginia selected for the award, teaches kindergarten at Middletown Primary School. Kelley earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education in 1982 and a master’s degree in special education in 1985 from Hood. MacNeill Jones, who is a kindergarten teacher at Ratcliffe Elementary School in Richmond, earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at Hood in 1988. Tobery, an art teacher at Oakdale Middle School in Ijamsville, Md., is currently enrolled in Hood’s graduate certificate in ceramic arts program. http://WWW.HOOD.EDU
