W W W.HOOD.EDU 15 Annual Funds Gifts Essential to College The four columns supporting Alumnae Hall, symbolizing Hope, Opportunity, Obligation and Democracy, represent philanthropy in its infancy at Hood College, as each column was donated by the graduating classes of 1915, 1916, 1917 and 1918. Today these columns represent Hood’s future as we invite alumnae, alumni, friends, parents and others to support faculty research and development, student scholarship, annual giving and campus facilities. Annual Funds Donors Fiscal Year 2008 “Annual funds gifts can celebrate a reunion, honor a favorite faculty member or classmate, or serve as a ‘thank you’ to a special place that has made a difference in your life.” Janet Spaulding Nunn ’61 Hood College Trustee and National Chair of Annual Giving $1,473,197 7% friends, faculty and staff 9% corporations and foundations 10% trustees 6% unrestricted bequests 65% alumnae and alumni Giving back is a tradition at Hood that connects generations of alumnae and alumni with students and their families. Unrestricted gifts to Hood’s annual funds strengthen the College and allow it to maintain the highest standards possible regardless of the economic climate. Hood’s annual funds donors include businesses, foundations, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, friends and others, but as the chart to the right indicates, alumnae and alumni account for the greatest proportion of the . million raised for unrestricted operating funds that are needed each year. Hood’s alumnae and alumni have loyally supported the College through times of both prosperity and challenge. This steadfast support has made a marked difference and is evident in the strength of the College today, which has been greatly enhanced by the generosity of those who are compelled to give back. This year, support of the annual funds is unprecedented in significance in order to assist Hood students in fulfi lling their dreams of a Hood College education. Please continue to keep Hood in your philanthropic plans by making a donation to the annual funds using the envelope provided in this issue of Hood Magazine. 3% parents
