Senior Ryan Junghans was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player. Senior Tim Abercrombie (above) earned all-tournament recognition as well. tal Athletic Conference school to earn this distinction on both the men’s and women’s side. Also of note, Hood’s women’s squad placed eighth in the nation with a combined . team GPA. Th is marks the second straight year that both of head coach Brent Ayer’s squads have been recognized by the USTFCCCA for this accomplishment. The Blazer track and field squads were elevated to varsity status in the summer of . Barrick competes with All-Stars Hood College softball coach Kate Barrick and other former college softball standouts traveled with a regional all-star team to historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pa. to take on the U.S. National Softball Team as part of its “Bound  Beijing” tour. Barrick, who played shortstop in high school and switched to the outfield at Fordham University, was selected by University of Arizona head coach Jeremy Lazorka. The regional all-stars took on Team USA at Bowman Field on May . Sixty games comprised the “Bound  Beijing” nationwide tour, which led up to the  Olympic Games in Beijing, China, in mid-August. The U.S. team captured the silver medal at the  Beijing Games. Foxx, Parker mentor Danish national lacrosse team Hood College head men’s lacrosse coach Curt Foxx and assistant coach Kevin Parker spent part of their summers coaching the Danish national team at the European Championship in Finland. Parker served as the Danish team’s head coach, guiding the squad to a th place finish out of  teams in the championship and posted victories over Latvia (-), France (-) and Austria (-). Denmark was introduced to lacrosse in  and competed in its first European Championship in . Parker and Foxx found this experience very rewarding and were thankful that they had the opportunity to grow the sport of lacrosse in another continent. The tandem anticipates traveling with the Danish national team to Manchester, England, for the  World Championships. Field Hockey Team Raises $500 for Breast Cancer Awareness The Hood College field hockey team raised  for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® at its regular season home finale on Oct.  at Thomas Athletic Field. The Blazers, who wore pink ribbons in their hair and shoelaces on their cleats against St. Vincent College, sold pink t-shirts with a Hood field hockey logo to show their support for breast cancer awareness. The funds were donated to Maryland’s Susan G. Komen for the Cure® affi liate in Towson. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. For more information on this organization, please visit www.komen.org. Track and Field earns honors The Hood College men’s and women’s track and field teams were among the elite squads named to the  U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic teams, as announced by association officials.
