Outdoor Kids Club NovDec - (Page 21) Outdoor Kids Club (OKC) interview with Ralph and Vicki Cianciarulo OKC: How did you get started in having your own TV show? Ralph: I actually was filming in the early 80’s and doing hunting videos back then, as both Vicki and I continued this in the 90’s many of our sponsors approached us asking why we aren’t doing TV, and that was the start. We put together a pilot show in 2000 and the rest is history. We have been blessed to be the only ALL archery show to ever win the Golden Moose award for Fan Favorite Hunting show, and in 05’ we introduced our new show called THE CHOICE and now we have two shows airing on the Outdoor Channel, ARCHER’S CHOICE & THE CHOICE. OKC: What is your favorite game to hunt and why? Ralph: I love it all, my favorite may not be the animal but rather how we hunt them. I love to spot & stalk and it doesn’t matter what it is I just love trying to get close and make the shot. Mule deer, whitetail, moose, bears, elk, caribou, wild hogs, you name it I love to hunt it. Vicki: My favorite has to be bear hunting and moose in the rut. Both are my all time favorite and I too love to just hunt! No matter the game I want to be out there with Ralph and RJ and just share what all there is to do in the outdoors. OKC: Where is your favorite place to hunt and why? Ralph: Wow, that’s a hard one, but I can tell you I really love the wilderness, give me the Yukon, northern Quebec, Alaska and I feel at home. I love to hunt and be around home for our whitetails, especially cause I can spend more time with RJ too. Vicki: I think I would have to say being in the wilderness too, just because the pure untouched raw beauty of it. You know there is a God when you see this country and the animals that call it home and we are just blessed to be able and share all this with everyone. OKC: Why do you feel it is important to get the kids involved in hunting and the outdoors at an early age? Both Ralph & Vicki: Here’s the deal, it is imperative we get our youth involved in the outdoors to save our heritage. Today there are some who want to take this away from us and have no understanding of what we as sportsmen and women actually do for the animals, their habitat and so much more. We need children to witness the outdoors to be brought up with the understanding how important organized hunting seasons are, how important gun safety and learning to respect the wilderness. If we as parents take the time to distill this in our children we will not have the problems we have now, when you take the time to bring them in the woods you will have to the time to stay there! No video games, no printed propaganda telling them they are wrong to enjoy the outdoors can sway them once you take the time and share with them what God has given us to use! The earlier the better, and don’t give up if there interest is not what you want it to be at this time, as long as we plant the seed, it will grow even when we don’t realize it. OKC: What is the best way to get kids involved in the outdoors? Both Ralph & Vicki: We don’t believe there is a best way, it is safe to say just making the effort to get them out there and keep it fun is what needs to be done. In today’s society we are all caught up in trying to just survive and time is hard to find for the better things in life, but nothing is as important as to spend quality time with your family and there is no better place to do so than in the woods watching birds fly, squirrels chasing each other, acorns dropping, deer feeding, a fish braking the waters surface feeding on a mayfly, hearing a elk bugle from a dark cool canyon, watching a sunrise or sunset makes us all realize that God is here and creates miracles each and everyday, all we need to do is stop and notice what is truly going on! Hunting is not a sport, nor is it a passion, it is our lifestyle and yours too, stop being afraid to embrace it, to share it and most of all to bring new people into a wonderful lifestyle. www.outdoorkidsclub.com Outdoor Kids Club Magazine 21 http://www.outdoorkidsclub.com
