Outdoor Kids Club NovDec - (Page 26) Hiding from the Waterfowl Ducks and geese have very good eyes. They can see movement and will not come into your decoys if they see something they do not like. This means you need to stay hidden the best you can. Camo, Camo, Camo!! Good camouflage is a must when you go waterfowl hunting. If you do not blend with the things around you, ducks and geese will never come to you. Blinds Blinds are anything that hides you from the sharp eyes of the ducks and geese. There are many types of blinds. Some blinds are like small houses that you sit in. Some are like tents that you lay in. You can even make a blind from the things around you like cattails, reeds, grass and cornstalks. If you are hunting with a dog, it is important to have a blind just for them. Your dog must be hidden too you know! There are a lot of things to learn to be a successful waterfowl hunter. You must learn to identify the different types of ducks and geese and know how to tell a drake from a hen. You will also need to learn how to make the calls of different types of ducks and geese. This takes a lot of practice but can be fun to learn. Remember, the best way to get started is to find a grown up who is an experienced waterfowl hunter and tag along and learn these basics of duck and goose hunting. If you pay close attention and listen to what they teach you, you will soon be shooting your limit of duck, duck, goose!! 26 Outdoor Kids Club Magazine www.outdoorkidsclub.com http://www.outdoorkidsclub.com
