Does make several sounds for different reasons. Contact Call This is a sound a does makes when she is trying to locate other deer in her family. This sound is a soft humming or long bleating sound. You can try to copy this sound to get deer to come closer to see what deer is lost. Use a bleat call and make two to three long, loud bleats. Doe Grunt © istock/ Mr. Jamsey When a deer grunts, it is saying “Hey, come over here”. Doe grunts are soft and not very loud. If the grunt is too loud, it makes the deer become alerted and looking for danger. Using a grunt call that makes doe grunts, you can make one to three very soft grunts. Be sure to wait a little between each grunt. If nothing happens, try it again in 15 to 20 minutes. Doe Bleat When a doe bleats, it is telling other deer, “Hey, I am over here”. This sound is used by does to keep their fawns close by. This sound is a very soft, short bleating sound. Using a call that makes bleat calls, make one to three soft, short bleats. This may draw a doe to you or even bring in a buck that thinks a doe is in the area. © istock/ Bill Grove 6 Outdoor Kids Club Magazine www.outdoorkidsclub.com http://www.outdoorkidsclub.com
