In addition to telling the story of 16th century exploration, the park is home to a wealth of cultural and natural resources and also provides panoramic views of the city. (Photo: Joanne Dibona) Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma 32 Another place to sit and ponder, with beautiful views of San Diego. Many interments date back to the early years of Californian history. 35 Grand Del Mar Hotel 33 Inspired by the rich decorative arts of Italy, Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, the hotel is complemented by commanding golf course views and lush grounds, creating an atmosphere that has been described as “perfectly balanced between heavenly opulence and natural beauty.” (Photo: Courtesy Grand Del Mar Hotel) JRDN Restaurant at Tower 23 Hotel, Pacific Beach 34 The chic, modern, beach lifestyle restaurant, JRDN “integrates seamlessly with the topography of its Pacific Beach locale and activities related to the seashore and boardwalk. The series of transitions—from the sky, horizon, breakers, shoreline, embankment and boardwalk—are carried through the sequence of seating options.” Translation: great people watching. The oh-so-satisfying menu ranges from the House Special (10 plates for $35) to The Bender (10 shot glasses for $12). Market Creek Plaza is a wonderful model for redevelopment projects in underserved neighborhoods. Begun as a partnership between community residents and a family foundation to redevelop an old factory site, Market Creek Plaza has evolved—through the creativity of hundreds of community stakeholders—into a skill-and asset-building opportunity of such scale and focus that working and learning together has become its signature.
