In 2008, AAHSA: l Testified before the Senate Special Committee on Aging to offer recommendations that address the long-term care workforce crisis. l Published four new Better Jobs Better Care (BJBC) resources and tools. The Gerontologist dedicated a special issue to one tool that providers can use to reduce direct care worker turnover and build a quality workforce. l Hosted a Workforce Solutions Day at AAHSA’s Future of Aging Services Conference. Attendees spent the day learning strategies for creating people-centric cultures, building a quality aging services workforce, using technology to empower workers and discovering solutions to improve care and services. l Testified before the Institute of Medicine committee that prepared the landmark study, Retooling for an Aging America: Building the Health Care Workforce. l Presented seminars and programs for trustees that focused on the latest governance issues critical to aging-services organizations. l Graduated 31 emerging leaders in aging services from the Leadership AAHSA class of 2008. l Launched a Leadership AAHSA Alumni Network to provide ongoing support and networking to Leadership AAHSA fellows. l Released a study for the AAHSA Talent Cabinet documenting the need to establish core competencies for long-term care professionals. | t
