Educational Program and Call for Papers One of the top reasons that attendees come to HLAA’s conventions year after year is the quality of the workshops. We seek out the top professionals in the world of hearing loss, as well as chapter members who have special knowledge or experiences to share. The Call for Papers is now posted on our website at www.hearingloss.org. We are accepting proposals for workshops in the following educational tracks: • • • • • Advocacy and Access Hearing Technology Medical Issues Relationships & Communication Young Adults by December 31, 2009, will get a chance to win three nights at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center (must be used on June 17–19, 2010; taxes are the responsibility of the winner). Did You Know…? Milwaukee is the 22nd largest city in America and its name comes from the Native American word “Milliocki,” meaning “gathering place by the water.” The exhibit hall of the Midwest Airlines Center can hold 555 city buses, end-to-end and side-by-side. Usingers Sausage in Milwaukee is known as “The Tiffany of Sausage Makers.” In the late 1800s Milwaukee become known as “Beertown.” Four famous Milwaukee brewers are Frederick Pabst, Frederick Miller, Joseph Schlitz, and Valentine Blatz. Milwaukee is the hometown of Harley-Davidson, the legendary motorcycle company, and the Harley-Davidson Museum. Milwaukee has more than 140 parks covering 15,000 acres of parks and parkways.
