W W W.HOOD.EDU been married for the last six years to Jack Hogoboom, her boyfriend while at Hood. Dana has four greatstepchildren—Ricky, 16; Sarah and Emily, 14; and Ben, 12. She is in her 11th year of working for Centocor Ortho Biotech, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, and works as a reimbursement specialist for the sales force of the drug Remicade, which is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease and psoriasis. Thanks to the wonders of Facebook, Dana has recently been back in touch with Dawson Casey Bullock and Dana Hulme ’83. Also reconnecting on Facebook are Jodi Palmer Murphy, Leslie Morgan Seidel and Tracy McCrudden Alexander. Jodi reported that she and Ellen Yodzis Patton have sons attending the Univ. of Tampa and Jodi’s youngest son is attending the Univ. of Florida. Jodi invites classmates in the area to come visit her “empty nest,” which is close to the beach. She is always up for a game of tennis. Jodi reported running into Patricia Ramadon Arnett and her husband at the Naval Academy O Club. Also connecting with Patricia is Nancy Thorpe Kelley M.A. ’85, who met up with her former roommate in NYC this past fall for a weekend of shopping, touring, a show and dining. Nancy still loves teaching kindergarten at the newly opened Middletown Primary School in Maryland. Her son Tyler is enjoying his freshman year at Clemson Univ. and daughter Connar is a high school freshman playing point guard for the junior varsity team. Nancy and Connar attended the “Messiah” performance at Hood and reminisced with Steve and Carole King Heine ’84, who grew up several miles from each other in upstate New York. Nancy also ran into four other Hoodies and fellow Meyran residents—Linda Hecklinger Procter ’81, Wendy Harris Saylor ’80, Marcy Goldberg Taylor ’81, M.B.A. ’00 and Hope Reid—who were reconnecting at a dinner at the Red Horse. Joy Miller Beveridge has enjoyed raising her children in Frederick and stayed connected to Hood. Joy has been swimming, watching field hockey and participating in the Hall of Fame committee. She was able to attend the new athletic field dedication. Joy even played in the alumni field hockey match in October and found the current athletes were “so welcoming to us old folks!” Jackie McDaniel West also finds herself busy as both an athlete and as a spectator of her own children’s sports. Jackie plays competitive tennis and is excited that, at age 50, she will be able to compete in the senior division as well as the adult league, the “only bright spot to turning 50!” She is helping her son Austin with college applications and her daughter Marleigh is now in eighth grade. Lynn Lockett graduated with an M.B.A. from The George Washington Univ. and spent the next 20 years as an economist and management consultant, primarily focused in the international arena with clients in government and business. Lynne then had her children and life took her in a different direction. She became a professional photographer and now has a studio in historic Savage Mill near Laurel, Md. Lari George Leiby is the controller for an agricultural research company in Hamburg, Pa., where she lives with her husband Mark and her 15-year-old daughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis last year but has a wonderful doctor and “still dances Polynesian.” Lari and Elizabeth are active volunteers with the American Cancer Society. After years of being the Christian education director of her church, Lari now teaches on an as-needed basis and sings in the choir. Glynnis Edwards Cowdery is the ABA coordinator for an early intervention program for preschoolers with autism and is updating the textbook she co-authored for the third time, “The Exceptional Child.” Her son Henry is a senior in high school and will be attending Savannah College of Art and Design next year. Her daughter Callie is a high school sophomore and is playing lacrosse. Glynnis, her husband John and their family returned from spending Thanksgiving at the beach in Washington and spent Christmas in Brussels and Paris. Ellen Yodzis Patton and family have been stationed in D.C. for a little more than a year. Her oldest, Erik, left for Iraq on Veteran’s Day and the other kids are all doing well in their various schools. Ellen’s quilting business is booming and she is the deputy director of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to cover (with quilts) those military members that have been wounded or touched by war. She also teaches a quilting class at her daughter’s school once a week as an elective for the middle school kids. Liane McCarthy is still in Virginia working for the FBI. In May, she will leave for a three-year assignment in Madrid, Spain. She wrote, “All of those Spanish classes at Hood, living in the Spanish House—not to mention my junior year abroad in Seville, Spain—have made all the difference. I will be the liaison assigned to the U.S. Embassy. After that I look forward to retirement and heading back home to Boston.” Bambi Maitland Grundwerg is living in Colts Neck, N.J., working for IBM as a business development program manager in the technical services division. Son Ben is active in the college search process and Alex is busy applying to a number of specialty public high schools. Both are budding designers/builders/engineers and both are involved in a healthy number of activities that seem to keep Bambi in perpetual volunteer/fund-raising mode. During a road trip to Niagara Falls last summer, the family stopped by for a quick visit with Anne Connal Biron and family outside Rochester and it was great for the grownups to catch up and the kids to connect like long-lost friends. You can find Bambi on LinkedIn or via e-mail at spgrundw@pipeline.com. Please keep the updates coming. It has been wonderful to hear from so many classmates. Our condolences to the family of Jody Heberlig Rider who died Sept. 7, 2009, in Elizabethtown, Pa. Susan Sutton Bartolotto is back in the States after five years in Germany and is living in Woodbridge, Va. Marietta Geckos Groepler H’03 wrote, “I married a wonderful man, Frederick “Fritz” Groepler, Oct. 10, 2009, in Bethesda, Md. It was a traditional Greek wedding and lots of fun. I also published my first book, titled “Daily Reflections for Bar Exam Study—An Inspirational Companion for Law Students and Experienced Attorneys Taking the Bar.” Reviews and more details are available on amazon. com under the author name of M.G. Groepler. I am doing well and have been practicing law for 20 years now. I am still enjoying my work as a criminal federal prosecutor with the U.S. Justice Department, focusing on consumer issues such as food safety. Robin Winkler-Pickett M.S. ’07 piped in with her news: “Not much to update here except that David and I are the proud parents of a new U.S. Marine! I now support one of the largest laboratory programs at the National Cancer Institute, which has taken me away from the lab bench for the last three years, but I still love this job and helping facilitate the scientific work of the newest and youngest scientists from around the world! I can’t remember if I shared last time that I received my master’s in biomedical science from Hood and was named the Outstanding Graduate Student in that program—what a wonderful surprise. For the science majors, kudos to Ricky Hirschhorn, professor of biology, for landing a new scientific grant for her research studies at Hood!” An update from Carole King Heine: “One of the highlights of this year was spending a weekend on the Chesapeake Bay with Carol Pointer Wanner, Jeanne Pensec O’Reilly and Katie Farley Babuska. We had not all been together in nearly 20 years and it was the best reunion possible. Katie traveled in from Albuquerque, N.M.; Jeanne from New York; Carol Pointer is in Lancaster; and I am in Frederick. We looked at old photo albums, school newspapers and reminisced about Beaux Arts, Dad ‘n’ Daughter, parents, siblings, teenagers, toddlers and, of course, old boyfriends. We all decided that we will get together every year and never let that much time pass us by. The reunion was a lot of fun and it was great to see so many classmates make the trip to Fredrock! As for me, my oldest daughter Kelsey is a freshman at The Ohio State Univ. and playing lacrosse. No Bug Me Crew there—you are on your own. It really made me miss the personal attention at Hood. Gretchen is a senior in high school and decided to be a Rotary exchange student in Bremen, Germany, for the year. The house got very quiet with two teenage daughters leaving at the same time. Kevin is a freshman at Urbana High School and Carly is in seventh grade at Urbana Middle School. I am fortunate to live in Frederick and get to take advantage of Hood! I attended the dedication of the new turf field … amazing! And last
