The New Parking Facility Manager: Changing Skill Sets to Adapt to New Technology

Until recently, the parking ofﬁce mantra used to be we “can’t get no…s a t i s f a c t i o n. ” Fortunately, the parking ofﬁce of today is no longer bound to end up as another complaint department. Technology, like the infamous Rolling Stones song, challenges our views and promotes change. Management positions in parking were, and can still be extremely difﬁcult, variant, and require extraordinarily thick skin. Today there is a move from reactive natured personalities towards proactive. A more personable approach is taken to client, interdepartmental, customer, and employee communication and relationship building, and believe it or not, technology is helping managers in these efforts.

When Should a Developer or Land Owner Consider an Automated Vehicle Storage System?

From a land owner’s perspective with more than 40 years of developing urban renewal mixed-use, ofﬁce and condo projects, parking has always been at the bottom of my motivational list—a requirement to resolve, but not nearly as much fun as creating forward-thinking ofﬁce environments and lifestyle-changing living spaces! However, parking automation is ‘coming of age,’ and astute developers and land owners are seriously analyzing Automated Vehicle Storage Systems (AVSS) to resolve their parking problems.
