Reflections
While there are usually operational issues to deal with when new facilities open, they can be minimized by getting your seat at the table in advance. If you are in a position that does not allow you the opportunity to participate in this process, you are likely to have many difficulties meeting expectations and maintaining your sanity. A wise person once said, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” I don’t know if Yogi Berra has ever used that quote but it holds great meaning when it comes to having a good parking operation. Anything you can bring to the table before the first shovel of dirt is turned over will make your job easier down the road. 

Pay-in-lane equipment and validation equipment manufactured by FAPD and installed by Signature Control Systems, LLC, was added to the visitor garage. Security officers are no longer used to collect money and tickets in a booth at the exit. This location required a shuttle stop for employees and visitors. It would also need a drop-off area for patients. This was completed in the early stages by working to design a driveway between the building and garage. The building connects to the garage above, allowing pedestrian entry directly from the garage into the building on two separate floors and providing cover for employees and visitors waiting for a shuttle. While the architect did not approve of our high-speed doors, we were able to gain additional capacity, painted walls, consistent way finding and prime location for parking office space as we did at 3244 Burnet Avenue.
