Parking Show of Shows Provides Real Value
This year’s Parking Show of Shows, scheduled for Oct. 11–14 in Boston, features our lowest registration rates ever for Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 13–14. Wednesday’s rate of $75 covers a general session, which kicks off at 9 a.m., business sessions, roundtable discussions, and three hours of the exhibit hall with lunch service, followed by additional business sessions. On Thursday, Oct. 14, the final day of the Show, we have lowered our admission fee to just $50. This gets members and non-members alike into business sessions that start at 9 a.m., followed by the Exhibit Hall and brunch service from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and then roundtable discussions and additional business sessions that will wrap up at 3:15 p.m. There will be no closing reception on Thursday. These new low rates, combined with more than 100 exhibitors, first-rate speakers and roundtable moderators, and a prime location during the height of New England’s spectacular fall foliage, will make this year’s Show our best ever. Keep checking our website at www.npapark.org for information on registration. For exhibitor and sponsorship information, contact Pat Langfeld at plangfeld@npapark.org. As I submit the May issue’s Between the Lines, I am attending the 19th Annual Spring Conference of the New England Parking Council in Providence, Rhode Island, April 7 and 8. Dan Kupferman, its president, has been very kind to help us advertise these deep discount daily rates for our annual conference in Boston. His conference has record attendance of more than 175 at latest count, and many with whom I have spoken plan to take advantage of the lower daily rates of October 13–14, not only for themselves but also for their employees who would never otherwise be able to attend a national-level conference and exposition for parking professionals. In other news at NPA, our 2010 Strategic Plan has been finalized and we’re ready to move forward with implementing some exciting new initiatives. Our 2010 Strategic Plan goal is to establish a sustainable organization to deliver membership value and meet our mission. We will do this with four strategic goals:
■



Vision Statement
 To be the
preeminent association serving the parking industry.

Mission Statement
 The mission
of the National Parking Association is to serve as a resource to the parking industry and our members by offering access to quality education, networking opportunities, advocacy, products and services.

Core Values
 Integrity  Leadership  Commitment  Collaboration  Innovation  Community
Service

External Advocacy—create and establish an informational toolbox that cities and states can use to successfully fight “parking related” taxes by the end of 2010. Enhance Membership Value—includes value building initiatives such as a member needs assessment; new association management and content management software; small business resources (document templates) and outreach to local and regional associations. Professional Development and Education—increase our webinars and other e-learning products; develop a new Certified Parking Professional (CPP) exam and market the certification program to a broader audience. Demonstrate Fiscal and Administrative Responsibility—implement a functioning organizational structure that has strong professional leadership by the end of 2010.
