Congregations Demo - Fall 2008 - (Page 4) Contributors Lee Beach is the director of ministry formation and lecturer in ministry studies at McMaster Divinity College (McMaster University) in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, where he is also engaged in Ph.D. studies in the area of applied theology. Lee has served as a pastor for 17 years with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) in Canada and serves currently as associate teaching pastor at Valleyview Alliance Church in Newmarket, Ontario and as a minister at large with the C&MA in Canada. Page 6 David Carlson is a presbytery executive who has consulted with hundreds of churches, pastors, and lay leaders during the last 18 years. In that role he developed a process guide that has helped many churches successfully Lee Beach find pastors in six months or less. David was called to serve as a presbytery executive after organizing an ecumenical prayer and support fellowship among pastors in Burbank, California, where he served as pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Additionally, David led the development and growth of a “green” alternative energy company in southern California. Page 36 Heather Kirk-Davidoff is the enabling minister of the Kittamaqundi Community, an independent church in the tradition of Church of the Saviour, located in Columbia, Maryland. Together with her writing partner, Nancy Wood-Lyczak, Heather has authored two other books: Talking Faith (Chalice Press, 2004) and Dare to Dive In: Strategies and Resources for Involving Your Whole Church in Worship (Abingdon, 2006). During the previous five years she worked as a freelance writer/editor and publishing consultant to Alban. During that time she played a major role in the development of Congregations magazine. In addition to the articles Marlis has written for Congregations, her writing has appeared in a number of other publications, including the National Gallery of Art Bulletin and Humanities, the magazine of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Page 20 Robert Muthiah is associate professor of practical theology and director of field education in the Haggard Graduate School of Theology, Azusa Pacific University. His forthcoming book, The Priesthood of All Believers in the Heather Kirk-Davidoff Twenty-First Century (Pickwick), encourages congregations to build on a trinitarian ecclesiology to live faithfully as the whole people of God in a postmodern context. Rob has served as a pastor for nine years and currently serves on the Leadership Team of Pasadena Mennonite Church in Pasadena, California, where he and his family are members. Page 11 Elizabeth M. Magill is a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and co-pastor of Worcester Fellowship, an outdoor church reaching isolated and homeless adults in Massachusetts. She also serves as project administrator for the Pastoral Excellence Project at Episcopal Divinity School, as a vitality coach for the United Church of Christ, and as an anti-racism trainer for the Episcopal Church. Liz is the co-author of the Bible study Seeing God in Diversity: Exodus and Acts (Morehouse, 2006), which she wrote with Angela Robert Muthiah Bauer. Page 33 Andrea Useem is a religion journalist and graduate of Harvard Divinity School. She publishes the website www. ReligionWriter.com, and her reporting on religion has appeared in Slate Magazine, the Washington Post, and USA Today, among other venues. Page 23 Sharon Wilson is pastor of Windsor Park United Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She is keenly interested in helping congregations thrive and assisting individuals to appreciate the place of their faith in their workplaces.
