Director of training and education Maureen Orey followed the presenters to share the current status of the SIA training program, announcing a vast growth in the number of students trained by the association’s own ATI’s in comparison to 2007. Orey called Hardy Roloff up who, on behalf of Waco Scaffolding & Equipment, accepted the coveted Harold K. Forbes Accredited Teaching Institute of the Year award. www.scaffold.org Elouise Schultz presents SIA Past President Jerry Schapira with the coveted Victor D. Saleeby award SIAEF board chairman Bill McBrayer took the stage to discuss the SIA Educational Foundation program and acknowledge those important benefactors who have contributed over the past year. Award recipients on that list were the Millstone Corporation, Territorial Scaffold, Sue Votroubek (Waco Scaffolding & Equipment) and Mike Thompson (PCI Scaffold Concepts). The real excitement began when McBrayer introduced the start of the SIAEF auction, which included 12 properties from all around the world. A professional auctioneer was brought in to rev up the crowd, and the banter back and forth between the crowd and the SIAEF Board of Directors, who served as spotters around the tables, generated a buzz in the ballroom. Thanks to generous spenders in the room and the great properties up for auction, more than $30k was raised. The foundation will use the money generated through this fundraising auction for grants and financial support for educational, safety and other projects benefiting the SIA membership and the industry itself. Planning is already in the works for a fantastic 2009 Industry Awards Dinner, which will be held in San Francisco at the Westin San Francisco Market Street. We look forward to another exciting annual event! Scaffold Industry SEPTEMBER 2008 21 http://www.scaffold.org
