Scaffolding Industry - September 2008 - (Page 7) FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK VOLUME 36 ISSUE 9 Denver…What a Success!! REMEMBERING THE EVENTS OF THE PUBLISHER 36TH SIA CONVENTION & EXPOSITION In Denver, we experienced too much. Our council meetings were very wellattended as many positive changes are happening in the various sectors of the scaffold and access industry. If you were unable to make it, I highly encourage a visit to the new SIA website, access the council(s) of your choice and email the respective chairman to offer your service, or just your insights, to the various projects being undertaken. Everyone has a voice, we want to hear yours! The week started with a small and ever-increasingly distant passion of mine – the Annual SIA Golf Tournament at beautiful Arrowhead Golf Course. It was a hot day and so beautiful at almost 7,000 ft above sea level. On Tuesday at the President’s Reception, the fun was unbelievable . . . unfortunately most of it was at the expense of outgoing president John Miller. A comic-roast was presented under the auspice of our fill-in emcee, Mr. Dave Glabe (Dave, you missed your calling). The hilarious roasting was given by the solo team of past-president Ken Buettner; Mr. Steven Witt of OSHA; our illustrious staff Continued on page 7 Mike Mehno (972) 819-1460 EDITOR Natalie Keith (561) 364-0113 MANAGER, DESIGN & PRODUCTION Jeff Kruger (626) 932-6193 GRAPHIC DESIGNER Chuck Muela (626) 932-6147 AD COORDINATOR Katherine Culliver (626) 932-6172 ACCOUNT MANAGER Joan Callahan (972) 819-1496 Scaffold Industry is published monthly with an extra issue in March by the Scaffold Industry Association Inc. Unfortunately, I must start this article with a heavy heart. Most recently, we experienced the loss of one of our beloved members, pastpresident David Beatty. David passed away on July 28 at his home in California. Mr. Beatty’s Bill Breault accomplishments in our industry and with our association will never be forgotten. The great passion he held for us never waned in the many years after he retired from service. Even though Dave was ahead of me in time, and surely experience, I was fortunate to have dinner with him and his wife Sandra and others last year in Long Beach. Dave and I sat next to each other, shared many stories, events, and a little bit of advice was offered as we enjoyed one of his passions, good wine. I walked away from that evening overwhelmed with his knowledge, passion and the unconditional friendship he had just bestowed upon me. Mr. Beatty . . . you will be missed. A wonderful tribute to David Beatty follows in this issue. The consortium of individuals and their skill sets is nothing less than an unbelievable body that has already begun to “Raise the Bar” of your association.
