THE SPOT
There's something special about the campaigns, teams and individuals
placing at the top of our annual FAXIES awards. Call it the X factor (or the
FAX factor). These winners have creative flair, strong messaging and multiple
touchpoints-all while adding in that special, personal customization.
It may seem cliché to say the entries get better and better each year, but it's
true. Just ask our panel of guest industry judges, many of whom are volunteering
yet again to sort through the hundreds of submissions, videos and
photos we received (you know who you are-thank you!).
Since we haven't created a dedicated magazine devoted solely to the FAXIES
for several years, I turned to the archives to find the 2008 FAXIES version
of Cablefax: The Magazine. As I thumbed through the edition, I was struck by
how much more complicated the PR and marketing world has become over
the years. That 14-year-old issue celebrated a Direct Response Marketing
winner and an Integrated Marketing honoree, but there was no recognition for
the use of VR/AR or even a mention of social media among the categories.
On the other hand, the FAXIES award for Best Tchotchke remains a perennial,
with 2008's first-place winner-WWE HD Launch mini fridge-still
receiving prominent real estate at CFX HQ in Rockville, Maryland. Keep that
swag coming!
The communicators, innovators and marketers celebrated in this issue often
face meager budgets, tight deadlines and small staffing, but they make magic
happen. Anyone who doubts the power of PR and marketing should take a
gander at the bevy of press, promotional stunts and killer buzz represented
on these pages. From themed-Hallmark Channel Movie Suites at Club Wyndham
to Cable One's $250,000 annual Charitable Giving Fund to Pluto TV's
free movie weekends to support independently owned
theaters, there's a little something for everyone. And
that's exactly the point of successful PR and marketing-to
provide something that feels tailored to your
interests and desires.

winners across more than 50 categories offer a masterclass
on cutting through the clutter and making a
positive impact on the business. We're opening up the
WWE mini fridge and raising a glass to toast you all!
