32 | COMMAND CENTRAL
Peter Stern
Title: EVP/Chief
Strategy, People &
Corporate Development
Officer,
Time Warner Cable
Years in Cable: 12
Education: AB,
Harvard; JD, Yale Law School
Best Advice in 7 Words or Less:
Enjoy Better
Why Him? Stern stepped into a new,
larger role recently, at TWC. He continues
to act as the company's chief
strategist, but he's taken on oversight
of corporate human resource functions
development-including maximizing
the company's talent base-in addition
to taking over stewardship of the
residential broadband and phone businesses.
Specifically, he has focused
on TWC's growing IntelligentHome
security business, its wireless push
and the MSO's shift toward centralizing
operations. A concert pianist, Peter has
an interest in all things classical.
The one thing I'd do differently if I
could go back to high school: Try out
for tennis team again junior year. Third
time could have been the charm.
My new year's resolution for 2014
will be... watch more TV.
The other subject I wish I'd picked
for my college major: Already
double-majored in Music & English.
Can't beat that.
Favorite decade? 2010s... so far.
The movie that should never be
remade? Airplane 2-already perfect
I watch the majority of programming
on this device: TV
Netflix or Hulu? TWCTV
The TV show title that most resembles
my life is... About a 50/50
split between " The Office " and " Married
with Children "
The biggest innovation in cable over
the last year: CableWiFi ■

33 | AHN FIRE
Henry Ahn
Title: EVP, Content Marketing
& Distribution, Scripps
Networks Interactive
Number of Years in
Cable: 23
Education: BS, Boston College;
MBA, Fordham University
Best Advice: Always do the right thing.
Why Him? In an industry that values relationships
above all, the affable Ahn has built a 25year
cable career as both a people's person and
a scrupulous negotiator. He's elevated his game
since joining the Scripps family two years ago,
delivering a gaggle of TVE deals with distribution
partners and overseeing the company's first
online-only subscription distribution deal in early
2013, with Amazon Prime Instant Video. Next
up, Ahn will continue to refine the video experience
for Scripps' existing and new content
as HGTV adds nine series this year. That's in
addition to Food Network and Cooking Channel,
which have a whopping 20 shows on their uh...
plates. Look to Ahn to serve up continued convergence
across TV, online and mobile devices.
Apple or Samsung? Apple. I have too much
invested in Apple products to switch.
The one thing I'd do differently if I could
go back to high school: Learn to play an
instrument.
Favorite decade? The '80s. I was in my twenties.
Need I say more?
Favorite airport? None. I hate them all.
Celebrity, sports figure or politician I'd most
NOT want to have dinner with? Pope Francis.
The biggest innovation in cable over the last
year: The continued rollout of TV Everywhere by
networks and distributors. ■
34 | LEGAL EAGLE
Rita Tuzon
Title: EVP/General Counsel, Fox Cable Networks
Number of Years in Cable: 16 or 9, depending
on how you slice it.
Education: BA, Human Biology, Stanford University;
JD, UC Berkeley's Boalt School of Law
Best Advice in 7 Words or Less: Sweat the
details-they matter.
Why Her? Tuzon and her team have helped Fox
secure significant distribution deals, including
retransmission consent fees and cable
network renewals with Comcast. Pursuing
digital initiatives and other content opportunities
that leverage the sports platform are among
Tuzon's most important priorities. In addition,
she oversees business and legal efforts for the
biggest national sports network launch in cable
history, FOX Sports 1, as well as FXX, the FX
spinoff aimed at young adults. Despite Tuzon's
diverse and varied responsibilities, she actively
mentors not only members of her own staff but
also young people from economically challenged
backgrounds.
Apple or Samsung? Begrudgingly, Apple
Beatles or The Rolling Stones? Joe Satriani
On a Saturday afternoon, you can find me...
reffing or driving kids around to various sports.
My peers would be surprised to learn that I...
used to design and decorate cakes in the middle of
the night (my only free time).
Appetizer or dessert? Both-and nothing in
between.
I watch the majority of programming on this
device: The good old television set.
Netflix or Hulu? Hulu!
Celebrity, sports figure or politician I'd most
want to have dinner with? Luc Robitaille
The day we get multiplatform measurement
is the day I... rejoice.
Favorite business and/or motivational book?
Blink by Malcolm Gladwell
Favorite vacation spot? Deer Valley Utah ■
