REGIONALS
Why Him? Corno launched Comcast SportsNet Chicago
in 2004 and hasn't looked back. Not only did he get
the Sportsman of the Year award in 2012, but Corno
continues to focus efforts not only in building the business
but also giving back to the community. His commitments
to Chicago Bulls Charities, Chicago White Sox Charities,
Chicago Blackhawks Charities and others are notable.
Through his support, the " Comcast SportsNet Sports
Awards " has become the biggest sports charity function in
the city, raising money for March of Dimes.
I consider this person my mentor, and here's why:
Jerry Reinsdorf (White Sox & Bulls Chairman)... he was
there at a crucial time in my career.
19 COMMAND CENTRAL
21 FRONT AND (CALL) CENTER
Jim Samaha
Title: Regional SVP, Keystone Region,
Comcast Cable
Years in Cable: 15
Education: BS, Engineering,
Cornell University; MBA Marketing
New York University
Best Advice: It's a marathon, not a sprint.
Marilyn Burrows
Title: SVP/GM, Cox Communications Central Region
Years in Cable and Telecom: 29
Education: BS/MBA, University of Nebraska
Best Advice: Success is a journey, not a destination.
Why Her? New to the Central region as of 2012 but not
new to Cox, Burrows leads operations for Kansas, Northwest
Arkansas, Omaha and Sun Valley. The region serves
more than 600K subscribers. Her region's demographics
require a balance of marketing to both metropolitan and
rural areas, never easy when considering the different
sensibilities and priorities. However, Burrows is well cut out
for the challenge. Prior to this job, she worked for Cox in
Las Vegas and Roanoke, Va.
The other subject I wish I'd picked for my college
major: Veterinary science
20 THE MILE-HIGH MAN
Why Him? Samaha's leadership has been crucial in
bringing to the Keystone region a new division call center
that will serve customers from Maine to Virginia and create
435 jobs to the Harrisburg, PA, area when it opens this
summer. Samaha is also spearheading the introduction of
Xfinity Home, Comcast's burgeoning home security and
automation product, across several communities serving
1.5 million customers in his territory. And that's in addition
to rolling out WiFi for commercial customers and the new
X1 platform.
22 THE HUMANITARIAN
Jacqueline " Jacqui " Vines
Title: President/ CEO, Cable One
Jerry McKenna
Title: SVP/Chief Sales &
Manufacturing, Cable One
Why Them? Programming and
content negotiations in the future
will be key to the company's success.
But Might and team have
never avoided a challenge, even
leading the way to advocate for
shifting FCC policy on the low-cost set-top-box rules.
Whether it's hurricanes in Mississippi or tornados in
Missouri, this duo leads by example.
24 THE TEAM PLAYER
Mary McLaughlin
Best Advice: Trust but verify.
Why Him? Under Jennings' leadership, the Mile High
Region has opened five new Xfinity Service Centers across
Colorado and New Mexico. In addition, the Region built
brand new product demo rooms and digital lounges in
local offices to ensure its teams are able to personally
experience its new products and services. Jennings also
has emphasized Internal communications, calling for leadership
meetings throughout the year as a way to bolster
loyalty and communication with his 3K employees.
Beatles or The Rolling Stones? Run-DMC
Dish I can make and that would impress a celebrity
chef: Jamaican Jerk Chicken
Why Her? Vines knows how to get her hands dirty. With
a career spanning jobs from receptionist to the C-Suite,
she now supervises Cox's second-largest region that
includes thousands of miles, two time zones and six
distinct markets. During her career, she has spearheaded
at least three Cox multi-system mergers. At the end of a
busy day, however, you will still find her chatting it up with
employees, taking a pulse of the frontline. Vines, a former
foster child, also frequently shares her motivational story.
You'd be surprised to learn that I... once served as a
stenographer for the FBI and still do my own typing.
23 LEADING BY EXAMPLE
Tom Might
Rich Jennings
Title: SVP, Mile High Region, Comcast Cable
Years in Cable: 20

Best Advice: " We are all meant to shine. " (From a
framed passage written by Marianne Williamson) was delivered
during Nelson Mandela's 1994 inaugural speech.
CableFAX: The Magazine
June 2013
Title: Regional SVP, Western New England Region,
Comcast Cable
Years in Cable: 19

Why Her? McLaughlin likes to promote alignment and
challenge employees to think out of the box-and that
strategy seems to be getting big results lately: During
