Cable Hall of Fame member Rutledge really needs no introduction in this
industry. That said, as chairman and CEO of Charter, Rutledge and his
team should be recognized for tripling the size of the company through
transactions with Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks; for
investing $40 billion in technology and infrastructure since 2016; and for
adding 3.6 million mobile lines since the company launched a mobile offering
in 2018. Overall, Charter now serves more than 32 million customers
in 41 states through its Spectrum brand, and the potential for growth
continues. Last year, Rutledge oversaw a successful bid for $1.2 billion
in funding for a multiyear rural expansion project that will result in more
than 1 million new passings across 24 states. Despite all this, Rutledge
still has time to be active in industry organizations and nonprofits, and he
serves on the boards of NCTA, CableLabs, the Smithsonian Museum of
Natural History and AdvanceCT. ■

Shell is a master of keeping his eye on the ball and focusing on the big
picture to bring about maximum long-term results. He's the executive
who oversees NBCU's vast portfolio of news, sports and entertainment
networks, a motion picture company, significant television production operations,
and a TV stations group-and he's had a lot to celebrate of late.
NBCU revenue soared to $9.3 billion in Q4 2021, up 25.6% from the previous
year's quarter, and studio sales were up more than 36%. Advertising
was up 6%, and that's before the company scored big-time with Super
Bowl LVI, selling out in-game commercial time, with some 30-second
spots going for as much as $7 million (a record, by the way) and more
than 30 new advertisers (a 40% rate of newcomers) on board. ■
