THE WHY? Jones, the first Black woman to lead a cable news network,
is making sure MSNBC reflects the world it covers. Over the summer, the
net launched " The Culture Is, " a series that celebrates Black, Latina, Asian
American Pacific Islander, Indigenous women and beyond. It's an important
component of NBCU News Group's 50% Challenge, which aspires for NBCU
newsrooms to be 50% women and 50% people of color.
SHE SAYS... " Yvette Miley, SVP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for NBCU
News Group, has a been a mentor to me for more than a decade. Yvette put
me in positions that allowed me to push myself and think differently about my
potential. As I reflect on our relationship, Yvette has always challenged me to
grow and go beyond what I thought I could do. "

THE WHY? Joseph helped create two virtual event partnerships with
prominent women of color in New York state politics, where she moderated
discussions about the pressing issues impacting citizens of New York.
She also hosted a series featuring elected officials and leaders talking
about the importance of Juneteenth, manifesting discussions both in and
out of the office, and is a board member of the Rev. Al Sharpton-founded
National Action Network.
SHE SAYS... " Traveling to see places beyond your hometown is crucial
to gain exposure to the world. "
WHO HAS KICKED DOWN A DOOR FOR YOU? My grandmother
was my biggest role model and she had an enormous impact on my life.
To honor her legacy, I named my daughter after her.

THE WHY? Being an immigrant himself, Kanda appreciates the opportunities
this country has provided for his successes and tries to pay it forward. He
sometimes jokes that his team is a " mini UN council, " representing six countries,
and multiracial and multi-ethnic men and women. Over the past year,
Kanda's team has been on the frontline in an effort to protect Mediacom from
ongoing cyber threats that have increased in scope and complexity after Russia's
invasion of Ukraine. Kanda has always encouraged women in cybersecurity
and strives for gender diversity during the hiring process.

Khan Academy. "
