Why Them? Hola, amigos,
no more. Univision now competes
handily with Englishlanguage
media across its
nine-network portfolio. Under
Conde's oversight, in 2011
the nets logged an increase
of 47% in nights they
outperformed ABC, CBS, NBC
or Fox 18-49 (156 compared
to 2010's 106), according
to the company. And, it
unveiled 500-plus hours of
new, original programming at
this year's upfront, adding to
4,000 hours of original content.
With her promotion this
year, O'Connor now oversees
distribution of Univision's
portfolio of cable nets plus
ancillary properties, including
the recently formed Univision
Cable Networks division,
comprising Galavisión and
a suite of six nets and their
digital platforms.
Year Ahead: Univision
will maintain focus on outperforming
English-language
peers, and launch three new
cable networks next year.

Why Them? Discovery consistently
ranks as a top cable sales organization.
The notoriously stylish Abruzzese
wears a coat of many colors as head of
the company's U.S. roster. He recently
split sales into male and female teams,
each focusing on emerging networks
skewing men-Science, Military and
HD-and women-ID, Fit and Planet
Green. Goodwyn took on the world this
year, driving affiliate sales efforts in
180 countries/territories, while overseeing
a new distribution strategy for
the global rollout of TLC. In less than a
year, TLC launched in 34 countries and
is on track to reach 100 million homes
by year-end.

What puzzles me most
about Millennials: Our
ability to connect with them
across all platforms. With their
media consumption habits, we
are seeing them continue to
engage with traditional media
while engaging new media, so
it is not an either/or. Striking
the right balance is key.

In May Discovery
became the first TV net to carry ads
for Maker's Mark bourbon on its
" Swamp Brothers " and " Gold Rush. "
Liquor advertising remains taboo
on broadcast TV-yet another way
Abruzzese is thinking outside the box.
With revenues of $3.8 billion last year,
the network has plenty to toast under
its ad sales chief. Building on Discovery
Education's success in driving its
K-12 business, Goodwyn's focus in
2012 is the division's newest venture,
a curriculum-based digital learning
service for community colleges across
the country.

youth: I was second-string high school

can create your own success.
