at a time, and know I won't be able to get everything
done, " she says. " So I just keep an eye on the important
things and I know the rest of it is still retrievable for
another time. "
Pam Nobles
Director, Education and
Certification, SCTE
Like so many others, Nobles
wasn't looking to get into the
cable industry. " I fell into cable
by accident... I needed a job!, " she recalls. But after 30
years, she has certainly made her mark. At SCTE, Nobles
is responsible for the development and implementation
of the organization's certification and training programs.
She has also been an active SCTE member since 1984,
and joined the professional development team in 2007.
" What keeps me excited about our industry is the constant
change, variety, and the relationships I have developed
over the years, " she says.
Kim Norris
EVP, Advanced
Advertising Strategy
and Operations
Cablevision Systems
Cablevision is a leader
in advanced advertising, and with Norris directing
strategy, the MSO shows every sign of maintaining
its long-held momentum. In her role, Norris focuses
on television data analytics, and on developing
solutions that help brands and advertisers optimize
consumer engagement and response to advertising
on TV and other platforms. Her passion for the job is
readily apparent. " My goal is to make TV advertising
so fun and contextually relevant to consumers
that it becomes part of their desired daily media
consumption, " she says.
Cathy Oakes
SVP, Operations
SCTE
Oakes wears many hats at
SCTE, with responsibilities
that range from driving the
development of the SCTE Tuck Leadership Institute to
working with WICT on creating the Women's TechConnect
mentoring program for women technologists. But Oakes
doesn't just work in technology; she relies on it too.
" The advancement of technology has been a godsend for
me, " she says. " It's given me the ability to organize my
activities more efficiently, to work from home one day
a week, and-probably most importantly-to have
a flexible schedule when I need to juggle work and
family needs. "
Carol Pandiscia
SVP, Technology
Program Management
and Business Planning
ESPN
Between working at a sports
network and leading technology program management,
Pandiscia is used to a male-dominated environment. But it
hasn't slowed her down. At ESPN, Pandiscia heads up the
project management office, business systems analysis,
budget administration, operations, and technology
communications. Her advice to cable rookies? " Building a
career is a commitment which requires constant care and
feeding, " she says. " Approach work with intent and keep
building. Have the tenacity, guts and perseverance to take
chances and adapt as your life changes. "
Sue Reinhold
VP Engineering,
Carolinas
Time Warner Cable
From radio engineer to VP,
Reinhold worked her way up
through the cable and telecommunications industries over
more than 30 years. Reinhold led Time Warner Cable's
DOCSIS 3.0 upgrade enabling the Signature Home launch
in Charlotte, N.C. Her team also initiated the first full hub
fuel cell deployment for the MSO in Greensboro in 2011.
Reinhold's philosophy is simple: " You can make your own
path in a dynamic industry by diving in, learning as much
as you can and figuring out the big picture, " she says.
Anna Tran Reyna
SVP, Business and
Legal Affairs, Digital
Media, Fox Networks
As a cable network
powerhouse, Fox has more
than few digital properties in its portfolio, and since joining
the company in 2007, Reyna has taken on responsibility
for these digital assets and more. She also manages Fox
Networks' participation in Dyle, the mobile digital TV joint
venture. In her spare time, she actively participates in Fox
mentorship programs, and she takes a strong view toward
helping others. " Support others every day, and in doing so,
you develop a strong network of people to support you on
your busy days, " she says.
Vibha Rustagi
CEO/President, itaas
After 23 years in cable and
12 as a founder and leader at
the services and technology
company itaas, Rustagi has
learned how to succeed even in tough economic times.
During her tenure as CEO, itaas has grown to support
more than 200 employees, and just this year, the company
opened up its fourth advanced R&D and testing facility.
Her management philosophy is simple: " Management by
walking around is a great way to re-energize yourself and
your team, " she says. " I often take a 'green tea break' as I
walk around and talk with itaas employees. "
Margret Schmidt
VP, Design &
Engineering, TiVo
TiVo has a passionate fan
base, but consumer loyalty
didn't always translate into
cable success. The fact that TiVo now has partnerships
with numerous cable companies is in part due to
Schmidt's product design leadership, and her relentless
focus on improving the TiVo experience. Schmidt has led
the designs of TiVo's award-winning user interface, which
brings cable programming, on-demand, and broadbanddelivered
content together at last. She couldn't be any
better suited to her job. " I love TV, " she says. " Watching TV
is a shared family experience, a great stress reliever and
just plain makes me happy. "
Sandy Sexton
VP, Digital Ad Sales
Technology Planning
Scripps Networks
At Scripps, Sexton analyzes
workflow processes and
applies technology to digital ad sales efforts. Her team
has replaced several manual processes in the company
with automated software tools and is actively working to
increase revenue opportunities from Scripps' available
advertising inventory. All that, and Sexton is dedicated
to mentoring as well. Her words of wisdom for a midday
re-energizer? " A bottle of water and a walk in the
sunshine, " she says. " OK, if it's raining, then walk
the steps. "
Veronica Sheehan
SVP, Global Network
Operations and
International IT
Turner Broadcasting
System
Sheehan is responsible for a staff of more than 1,100
employees worldwide and leads all efforts in broadcast
operations, engineering, traffic and support for Turner
Broadcasting's entertainment and animation networks.
She's no stranger to awards and accolades either. In
2010, WICT smartly named Sheehan a " Woman to
Watch " in recognition of her many contributions. Her
secret to success may be her adaptability. " I love the
