More of the Most Powerful Women in Cable 2013
Patricia Jo Boyers
President/CEO
BOYCOM Cablevision
Patricia Jo Boyers (along
with her husband, Steven)
co-founded Missouri-based
BOYCOM Cablevision,
which consists of six
headends, in 1992. She has served as board director for
the American Cable Association and last April testified
before the U.S. Senate Committee on rural broadband
deployment to bring attention to BOYCOM's efficiency in
combining fiber and wireless. " I love being involved in the
decision-making process for our industry and representing
the rural areas of our country, " Boyers says.
Maria Brennan
President/CEO, WICT
For the third year in a row,
Brennan has helped WICT
set record membership
numbers, which now are
up to nearly 10,000. She
also led the organization
abroad, with its first event in the U.K., and relaunched
WICT's Senior Executive Summit for high-level women
in cable. On success in the workplace, she envisions
equity: " Not added access, simply equal access. "
Sherry Brennan
SVP, Distribution
Strategy &
Development
Fox Networks
Formerly an exec at Cablevision,
Brennan knows the
business on both sides of
the distribution chain. A sought-after informal advisor for
companies looking to get into the video space, she leads
Fox's TV Everywhere strategy and guides other emerging
business models. Meanwhile, she was recently
approached by platform vendors, second screen app
developers and others offering ancillary services to help
navigate relationships within News Corp. and on product
design and development. Her best trick for maintaining
the work-life balance? " Gratitude. "
Karen Brodkin
EVP, Business and
Legal Affairs. Fox
Sports Media Group
This former entertainment
lawyer (Spike Lee was a
client) masters the art of
negotiation. She seeks to

close deals with a competitive energy while finding a
path in which both sides walk away feeling like winners.
She has worked on nearly all recently closed major
sports deals for Fox, including the Big East Conference
basketball contract, the UFC/Fox deal, and the NFL
extension. Believe it or not, she would want to swap jobs
with Chuck Todd, NBC White House correspondent for a
month. Why? " I'm a political/news junkie, " she says.
Sarah Bryant
SVP, Finance and
Administration
Comcast Cable
Bryant's responsible for the
financial planning, analysis
and management of
business operations for the
California region with 2.2 million cable subscribers and
annual revenues exceeding $3 billion. During her career,
Bryant has participated in several leadership programs
including the Harvard Women's Leadership Forum, WICT
Executive Development Program, Comcast's West Division
PEAK Leadership Program and Comcast's Executive
Leadership Program.
Vera Buzanello
SVP, Distribution
Discovery Networks
Latin America/U.S.
Hispanic
As a result of Buzanello's
efforts to expand Discovery
HD channels to Latin
America, all of Discovery Networks' HD nets are now
in 21-plus countries and territories throughout Latin
America and the Caribbean. Recognition for professional
accomplishments is one measure of success, but
Buzanello says, " Equally important to knowing you are
valued is being able to contribute value, not only to the
business, but also to the people who you work with. "
Ann Carlsen
President/Founder
Carlsen Resources
CRI is a consistent
industry resource providing
executive searches and
consulting in cable, media,
entertainment and technology.
Carlsen deeply understands the industries she
serves, the needs of her clients and the broader marketplace
in which they operate. It's not surprising, then, that
" Brokering the deal that lands someone their big dream
job and knowing it will not only be a career-defining
moment for them but also a life changing event for
November 2013
their entire family " is her favorite part of the job. Under
Carlsen's leadership, CRI has become the gold standard
among boutique firms. She also has established CRI as
a firm committed to recruiting and mentoring strong
minority clients.
Lynn Charytan
VP, Legal Regulatory
Affairs/Senior
Deputy General
Counsel, Comcast
Charytan gives corporatewide
legal advice on regulatory
matters and oversees
the company's legal regulatory advocacy, including
filings in federal and state regulatory proceedings and
related litigation appeals. She also aids in compliance
with regulatory requirements related to the NBCU merger.
Among her accomplishments, Charytan was selected
by her peers for inclusion in recent editions of The Best
Lawyers in America in the area of communication law.
" Constantly changing challenges that have to be solved
creatively at an insane pace? That's my perfect work
scenario, and I get it every day here, " she says.
Leslie Glenn Chesloff
EVP, Programming
Up and Aspire
Chesloff oversees the
recently rebranded Up
Network's most ambitious
original programming
slate in its eight-year
history. She also helped launch and program Magic
Johnson's Aspire Network. The 30-year TV industry
vet started as an accounting major at the University of
Miami until her college roommate, Susan Brooks, currently
general counsel and EVP of business affairs for
Fishbowl Media, said she was too outgoing to be an
accountant. The next thing she knew, she was interning
at WTVJ in Miami. How does she define workplace
success? " When you have the luxury of going to work
each day and it doesn't feel like work, " she says.
Andrea Ching
SVP, Marketing &
Promotions, CNN
Networks and Turner
Digital Ad Sales
Ching's already full
