Cablefax The Magazine - November 2016 - 19
has been really astounding. What used to be a
bonus for subscribers-a backup in the event
you forgot to hit " record " on your DVR-is now
rapidly becoming the main path in which viewers
consume programming. " Wise words from the
woman who oversees new development and current
productions at Starz, including " Outlander, "
" The White Queen " and its sequel " The White
Princess. " Bailey also secured the sequel to the
limited series " The Missing " with BBC1.
Amy Baker
EVP, National Ad
Sales, Lifetime, LMN
& FYI
A+E Networks
A natural " people
person, " Baker's passion
for what she does
has helped her cultivate client relationships and
create deals that exceed expectations for all
female-skewing A+E networks and their brand
partners. She developed collaborative activations
for Lifetime's new " Project Runway " with
clients including Mary Kay, Lexus and Hallmark
Signature, and created and distributed a " Fempire "
newsletter to marketers-built around the
catch-word that describes the essence of Lifetime
and underscores the female sense of empowerment.
" The cable industry once was a disrupter to
broadcast and now we are being disrupted by our
frenemies-Netflix and Hulu amongst others, " she
says. " Consumers have more choices, and so do
advertisers. "
Gina Balian
EVP, Limited Series
FX Networks
Balian's inclusion on
this list is a unanimous
verdict as she was
instrumental in the
development and launch
of the most successful program in FX's history-
" The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime
Story. " The miniseries was cable's most-watched
new series of the year and received 22 Emmy
nominations, taking home nine. Balian especially
gives comedies credit for creating diverse
female roles-noting " Better Things, " " Grace
and Frankie " and " Black-ish. " " Dramas need to
catch up, " she says. Balian says the year's biggest
industry story is " Holding decision makers more
accountable for diversity. "
Jennifer Ball
EVP, Marketing and
Content Partnerships
Univision
Communications
The message of
UCI's 2014 cohesive
multiplatform marketing
initiative, " United We Stand, Together We Grow, "
illustrates Ball's keen understanding of Univision's
diverse audience, while the implementation of it via
print, digital, and out-of-home advertising underscores
that she knows today's challenges and importance of
reaching consumers. " I think the programming that
best refl ects women portrays them in the many roles
they have to play in our current society, " she says. " All
of these roles complement each other, but confl ict at
times and the best programming refl ects both the joys
and challenges that women face today. "
Jamie Barton
EVP, AT&T
Entertainment Group
- Mobility &
Customer Operations,
Sales & Service
Centers
AT&T
Barton's been part of an evolution throughout her
tenure at AT&T, and her involvement in several areas
of the company make her an invaluable part of the
team. She's launched management development
and peer coaching programs to boost employee
performance, and has led system assimilation and
technical training during the integration of the DirecTV,
mobility and U-verse contact centers. " When
I started 25 years ago we were a dominant phone
company. A decade ago we added a video product.
Today our unique product portfolio allows us to be a
truly integrated provider, " she says.
Maggie Bellville
VP
Hitachi Consulting
A veteran cable executive
and alumna of Charter and
Cox Cable, Bellville brings
her industry expertise to
the consulting realm to
powerful results as she advises executives on issues
ranging from sustainability to billing integration. She
specifi cally has led the charge for Hitachi to lend its
research and development of energy savings products
and services, working tirelessly in pursuit of alternative
energy solutions for the cable industry. Bellville " would

love to see more women making strategy decisions,
and especially see them advancing into leadership roles
in IT, engineering and fi nance. "
Pam Bertino
SVP, Content
Distribution
Pop
Bertino leads content
distribution and marketing
as well as digital and
international distribution.
And she leads well. Since joining Pop in 2014, the
former Ovation distribution executive has helped
Pop secure new carriage agreements that will add
some 8 million homes in 2016. Bertino feels cable
networks, independent nets in particular, have supported
women in senior leadership roles for years.
" I've had the good fortune to work for and learn
from many of these female leaders and am now one
myself... [affording] me a valuable opportunity to
pay-it-forward and mentor up-and-coming women
leaders who will in turn lead the networks of the
future, " she says.
Patricia Betron
SVP, Multimedia Sales
ESPN
Betron is a champion for
advertising effectiveness.
For instance, last year
she forged a stronger
relationship with fastfood
chain Wendy's by elevating the brand's visibility
through a unique creative partnership. Moreover,
her interpretation of research and data has led to
new consumer insights, including the insights study
on " The Bi-Cultural Hispanic Sports Fan Media
Behaviors " she helped develop. This year her team
will continue to use ESPN's data management
platform to drive impactful results for advertisers
and incorporate data insights into B2B marketing. " I
may be biased, " she says, " but the advertising sales
sector of the cable industry has provided a great
opportunity for me as a female executive. "
Jamia Bigalow
SVP, Distribution
Marketing
Fox Networks Group
Bigalow and her team
are responsible for
developing multiplatform
marketing initiatives that
enhance partnerships between the company and
