6. Oprah Winfrey
Chairman, CEO & Chief Creative Officer
OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network
Just when it seems Winfrey's media
empire can't possibly expand any farther,
it always does. Perhaps buoyed
by OWN's success with original series
like " Tyler Perry's The Haves and the
Have Nots, " this summer the network
launched two new Winfrey-produced dramas- " Greenleaf "
and " Queen Sugar " -which both earned critical acclaim and
helped make 2016's Q3 the highest-rated, most-watched,
and highest-ranking quarter in network history. Better yet,
Winfrey plays a recurring character on " Greenleaf. " Despite her
commitment to the new shows, Winfrey's desire to educate
others continues to power OWN's online learning platforms
like OWN Lifeclasses as well as the popular Oprah & Deepak
21-Day Meditation Experiences. Whatever the message or the
medium, Winfrey magnifies it by forging connections with fans.
7. Debra Lee
Chairman & CEO
BET Networks
Lee remains on a roll pushing to invigorate
the BET brands with programming
that reflects their audience. Series
including " Being Mary Jane and " Real
Husbands of Hollywood, " and BET's
first miniseries, " The Book of Negroes, "
all hit high notes this past year. She was behind the rebranding of
Centric as the first network designed for black women and has
addressed issues in the African-American community such as
voting rights, mothers against urban violence and has even raised
funds for the Flint water crisis. With a 30-year career at BET
Networks and as one of the highest ranking African-American
women in media, Lee has earned numerous accolades across
the cable industry and is hugely respected-from being named
the first African-American to serve on the Twitter board to being
appointed by the White House to the President's Management
Advisory Board.
8. Jennifer Gaiski
SVP, Content Acquisition
Comcast Cable
Gaiski brings two decades of experience
negotiating programming within
the cable industry. She has played a
key role in helping shape Comcast's
video offering, overseeing its multibillion-dollar
content acquisition budget.
She negotiates and administers programming contracts,
coordinates field operations and communications for Comcast's
three operating divisions, and also looks over many other company
initiatives. She has a reputation for being a tough but fair
negotiator while building relationships. Gaiski grew up watching

reruns of " Wonder Woman " starring Lynda Carter. " Today, I like
to watch 'Outlander's' Claire Fraser, 'Game of Thrones'' Sansa
Stark and 'X-Men's' Jean Grey, " Gaiski says. " These are women
achieving anything they set their minds to achieve... literally, in
some cases. "
9. Frances Berwick
President, Lifestyle Networks
NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment
Berwick oversees the daily operations
for Bravo Media, E! Entertainment,
Esquire Network, Oxygen Media
and Sprout, the latter added to her
portfolio this past February. During
the past year she bolstered Bravo's
debut into the scripted space, with the second season launch
of " Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce " and the June 2016 season
two premiere of the half-hour comedy " Odd Mom Out " - the
highest-rated new series of the year for the network. In the next
year, she'll lead Oxygen's new shows including " Last Squad
Standing " and " The Battle of the Ex Besties, " as well as " Strut. "
E! will get its second original scripted, " The Arrangement, " while
Esquire will continue its momentum as a fast-growing network
appealing to a higher-income, metropolitan male audience.
10. Lisa Rosenblum
Vice Chairman
Altice USA
Last year, as Cablevision's EVP of
government & public affairs, Rosenblum
showed substantial chops in navigating
the complex process to secure the
necessary regulatory approvals to complete
Altice's purchase of Cablevision.
And the executive, named Altice vice chair in August, continues
to have industry consolidation on her mind. " With the consolidations,
the industry is assuming the size and scale to continue to
deliver the best services to knit our communities together over
high-speed broadband and deliver the most robust and extensive
programming options to our customers, " she says. Rosenblum's
ability to analyze complex situations will serve her well as she continues
to resolve the regulatory and legal issues that may arise as
Altice USA introduces its services and integrated operations with
Cablevision and Suddenlink.
11. Marjorie Kaplan
President of Content
Discovery Networks International
After 20 years at Discovery Communications,
Kaplan is leaving the
company at the end of 2016. The
veteran exec has most recently
overseen content for Discovery
Networks International, but her
influence over the company is far and wide. Over the years
