Most Powerful Women 2017: The Top 50
13. Linda Yaccarino
Chairman, Advertising Sales & Client
Partnerships
NBCUniversal
To some, the forward-thinking Yaccarino
might as well be a miracle worker.
Once again this year she raised the
bar on NBCUniversal's advertising
even higher by securing single-digital CPM increases-despite
increased competition from digital streaming services.
Her efforts led to upfront sales of close to $6.5 billion for the
company's portfolio of two broadcast networks, 15 cable
networks and more than 50 digital properties. Yaccarino's
success stems not just from her innate understanding of both
advertisers' needs and consumers' wants, but from her ability
to identify and produce mutually beneficial relationships within
the industry.
14. Louise Sams
EVP & General Counsel
Turner Broadcasting
Sams has been with Turner since
1993, and is wrapping up another impactful
year overseeing the company's
legal matters around the globe. She's
been a bit busy with the pending
AT&T transaction. Her resume includes leading her team on
acquisitions and joint ventures, production and clearance of
content for Turner's networks, protecting intellectual property,
and litigation and employment matters. Never turning anything
down that comes across her desk has been her secret to
success, propelling her through the ranks at Turner and giving
her opportunities to learn from her peers in a variety of backgrounds.
While she spends many of her days traveling, she
doesn't mind it. Seeing new places remains one of her favorite
ways to rejuvenate, and she maintains an ever-growing list of
her top cities across the globe.
15. Kimberley Harris
EVP & General Counsel
NBCUniversal
Harris and her team of legal eagles
are involved with nearly all of NBCUniversal's
biggest deals. Under the
guidance of this former member of the
Obama administration, this summer
NBCU joined forces with several other entertainment companies
to form the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment,
which is committed to finding ways to reduce Internet piracy.
Also this year, Harris received BESLA's Beacon of Industry
Award from the Black Entertainment & Sports Lawyers Association
for her contributions to the industry. Harris' favorite
female TV character is Jessica Pearson from " Suits " - " She's
got the best wardrobe! "
16. Cyma Zarghami
President, Nickelodeon Group
Viacom
Zarghami is truly a Nickelodeon lifer,
having been with the Viacom-owned
network since 1985. During that time,
she's helped build Nick into the torchbearer
for children's programming and
these days is adapting it to the multiplatform era. Nick Jr.'s
" Paw Patrol " has been an immense success among preschoolers,
and Nick's upcoming latest iteration of the " Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles " series is on track to make a splash.
Viacom CEO Bob Bakish earlier this year pointed to Nick as
an example for all of the company's brands to follow; credit
Zarghami for much of that success.
17. Catherine Bohigian
EVP, Government Affairs
Charter Communications
Not only has Bohigian made Charter's
government affairs office a respected
policy leader in Washington, DC, but
she was instrumental in obtaining regulatory
approval of Charter's acquisitions
of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks. While
she now oversees a department of more than 100 people for
a cable company spanning 41 states, Bohigian's past experience
as a senior FCC staffer left her with tools crucial to
Charter's ongoing success: a deep understanding and working
knowledge of the cable industry's most complex legal, policy
and regulatory issues.
18. Suzanne Scott
President, Programming
Fox News
Scott was named the first President of
Programming for Fox News earlier this
year, a leap from where she started
when she joined Fox News Channel
at its inception in 1996. She supervises
and oversees all network programming, leading the
launch of FNC's newest primetime lineup last May. Scott is
also constantly taking the time to mentor the industry's rising
stars while doing what she can to support other executives
in the field. In Scott's eyes, 2018 will be a continuation of the
corporate battle between media companies and Silicon valley.
" This is because journalists, producers and all content creators
need to protect and manage the access and the value of the
material they are creating. "
