Top Work
Bright House Networks
Who wouldn't want to work for Steve Miron and Nomi Bergman? Exactly, which
explains why so many of the employees at Bright House Networks are proud to
call this company home. With the need for large numbers of CSRs, ield techs
and tech support staff to operate such a capital intensive business, cable operators
often face higher-than-average turnover rates. But Bright House's rate
was only 13% in 2011 (and only about 16% for its CSRs), a testament to its
strong commitment to employee welfare. Among perks: Educational assistance
to employees and a scholarship program for eligible dependents, adoption
assistance, a lexible spending account option for daycare services, lextime
and telecommuting in some departments, and an employee referral program.
In addition, Bright House
since 2005 has operated
the Women's Leadership
Circle, a formal women's
mentoring program
that connects mid-level
supervisors and managers
to top execs and puts them on the
potential fast-track to advancement.
And again, who wouldn't want to work
for Steve and Nomi? Yep.
Charter
Over the years, Charter has grappled
with inancial strife and other issues.
Yet many employees have stuck it
out through good times and bad, and
now the future's looking especially
bright with ex-Cablevision domino
Tom Rutledge irmly at the reigns. The
company already offers numerous
perks, including its 401K match, tuition
reimbursement, day-care discounts,
telecommuting options and in-house
training under Charter University. But
it's the employee testimonials that
impress us every year. " As a long-time
employee of Charter and its predecessors,
I have seen many changes over
the years, " says one employee. " The
company has had periods of struggle,
yet its commitment to employees to
provide the best support and beneits
hasn't wavered, despite the cost
of providing such programs. " Says
another: " I wish I had found Charter 20
years ago. " And one worker excited
about the new management put it this
way: " Watch our dust over the next
few years! " We will.
CableFAX: The Magazine
Discovery
Communications
Discovery has weathered plenty of
change in recent years, with CEO David
Zaslav reshufling positions, networks
and employee rolls in an effort to
squeeze every ounce of potential out
of this cable content staple. But with
a headquarters in Silver Spring, MD,
outside the New York City-Los Angeles
lyover corridor, Discovery has been
smart to focus on its talent, promoting
a whopping 477 employees in 2011.
That kind of opportunity comes with a
generous slate of employee beneits
that has made it one of the most sought
after employers in cable. Discovery's
on-site wellness center in Silver Spring
is perhaps the best example of putting
employees irst, with services including
free on-site exercise classes, along with
itness reimbursements. It's also just a
fun place to work, with everything from
roaming ice cream carts to haiku/short
story contests.There's even an on-site
daycare center with a playground for
more than 100 employees' children.
September 2012
Comcast
Since bringing the NBCU content
powerhouse into its fold in Jan of
last year, Comcast really hasn't
looked back. Its leadership position
in diversity both for employees and
suppliers, not to mention its strong
support of diversity initiatives
industry-wide, is unmatched. And
its beneits, such as free and
discounted services for workers,
back-up child/adult care programs,
a lactation program, paid parental
leave, adoption beneits, tobacco
cessation programs, biometric
health screenings, discounted stock
options, Comcast University, and
formal mentoring and leadership
training programs-are second to
none. And did we mention the
incredibly inspiring Comcast Cares
Day, which has become a rallying
point that brings together employees
at all levels around community
service? Comcast has also made
big strides internally on diversity,
with Comcast/NBCU's managerial
class now 7.4% African American,
6% Asian American, 8.6% Hispanic
and 40.6% women. The industry's
proud to call Comcast its leader.
Tuition reimbursement, mentoring, a
generous 401K match, many women
in leadership roles... the list goes on.
Maybe that's why Discovery's latest
employee survey found that 96% of
employees were " proud " to work for the
company. We're proud to list it here.
