1. Dexter Goei
President, Altice N.V. Chairman & CEO, Altice USA
Prior to assuming his current roles, Goei was CEO of communications company
Altice Group. He makes the top spot on our list for entering the U.S. with
a bang. While at the helm of that $27 billion company he led it through several
major transactions-most notably Altice's entrance into the U.S. market with
the $17.7 billion Cablevision and $9.1 billion Suddenlink acquisitions. Expect
to see continuous network upgrades, fi ber expansion and investments in gigabit
speeds from this powerhouse in the near term and beyond. Goei believes
the technology that will most benefi t cable over the next year is " Altice's new
Home Hub customer premise equipment, of course! " The all-in-one home center
lets subs integrate cable video, OTT video, online storage, WiFi-connected
devices and more in a single hub.
2. Debra Lee
Chairman & CEO, BET Networks
Lee's infl uence can be felt throughout the industry. She will serve as the
co-chair for this year's NAMIC conference. But her hold is not just in the
traditional space, with Twitter adding her to its board of directors in May. She's
made sure BET is a leader in the digital space, with the channel launching an
OTT subscription service earlier this year in certain international markets. Lee
also was instrumental in spearheading the re-branding of Centric as the fi rst
network designed for black women. Under her leadership, BET has addressed
issues prevalent in the African American community, including voting rights,
mothers against urban violence and most recently raising funds for the Flint
water crisis. Added bonus... Lee made sure the BET Awards delivered a
Prince tribute that honored the Purple One the way royalty should be.
3. Cesar Conde
Chairman, NBCUniversal International Group and
NBCU Telemundo Enterprises
With Conde leading the charge it was a banner year for NBCUniversal Telemundo
Enterprises, with Telemundo's primetime ratings the highest in its
history in the A18-49 demo, a new global headquarters investment in MiamiDade
County, and the creation of a comprehensive news coverage and voter
registration platform, #YODECIDO 2016, for young Hispanic voters nationwide.
Naturally, his personal election campaign slogan would be Yo Decido ( " I
decide " ). " While this slogan is also the banner of Telemundo's voting initiative
during the 2016 election, it accurately sums up what I hope will happen-
that voters will feel empowered to make it their personal responsibility to be
informed, make their own decisions and participate, especially in light of all
that has been happening in our country and around the world. "
