7. Luis Silberwasser
President, Telemundo Network & NBC Universo
Silberwasser oversees the Telemundo broadcast network, including original Spanishlanguage
content producer Telemundo Studios, and cable network NBC Universo. He's
charged with developing entertainment, sports and news growth strategy for the company,
and the results are in: Telemundo continues to grow audience share and close
in on its rival Univision, garner all-time ratings highs, and roll out innovative programming
formats such as election coverage platform #YODECIDO 2016 and the popular
telenovela revamp, " Super Series. " Having worked as EVP and chief content offi cer for
Discovery Networks International prior to joining Telemundo, Silberwasser has acquired
a deep understanding of the U.S. Hispanic and Latin American markets.
8. Steve White
President, West Division, Comcast Cable
This year White made signifi cant strides in the transformation of the West Division's
customer service experience, from installation to customer interaction to response
time. And it's starting to pay off. The on-time arrival rate for technician appointments
reached an all-time high of 98.9 percent in Q1 2016, and the majority of
customer phone calls are answered in less than 30 seconds. Up next is a customer
loyalty system. White is passionate about supporting diversity within the company
and beyond. He guides the West Division Internal Diversity Council and leads the
Company's Black Employee Network, an employee resource group led by volunteers.
He also supports efforts to provide scholarships to Denver-area minority high school
students, encouraging Comcast to donate advertising space, sponsor a college access
center and invest in the creation of story-telling tools for the foundation.
9. Henry Ahn
President, Content Distribution & Marketing, Scripps Networks Interactive
Ahn oversees both traditional and linear distribution, and he also works with the
ever-increasing number of businesses seeking high-quality digital content. Despite
declining pay-TV subscriptions, his team secured signifi cant distribution deals with
nontraditional distributors and rolled out an update to the TVE apps for HGTV, Food
Network, Travel Channel, DIY Network and Cooking Channel. The usage of the apps
saw YOY growth of between 50 percent to 120 percent, just one example of Ahn's
success in reaching cord-cutting millennials. Ensuring the cable industry continues
to employ a diverse workforce at all levels even overlaps with Ahn's charitable work.
He sits on the board of the T. Howard Foundation, " which strives to promote diversity
in the media/entertainment industry. We have a great internship program that fosters
career development for minority college students. "
10. Alfred C. Liggins III
Chairman & CEO, Radio One & TV One
TV One has had an amazing year so far, which may be directly linked to Liggins'
decision to hire Brad Siegel as the network's new president. In the fi rst quarter,
the company kicked off a major rebrand planned to coincide with one of its biggest
events of the year, the February broadcast of the NAACP Image Awards. New
programming also was rolled out to complement the network's new " Represent "
tagline. In 2016, TV One also became the exclusive cable home for Fox hit series
" Empire. " Celebrating the impact of African-American culture is important to Liggins
not only on the air, but in his off hours as he supports The Apollo Theater in Harlem.
Liggins says, " It is an honor to be associated with a venue that launched the careers
of so many African-American musicians. "
