blocks of ORs into service lines to
manage entirely as their own. Allocating
block and scheduling as well as creating
standards, protocols, best practices,
and goals, these " micro ORs, " as they
dubbed them, were a success for increasing
volume and optimizing utilization.

and convenient, and the real-time data
and reporting it provided enabled leadership
to keep tabs on individual service
line performance down to specific days
and rooms. This created systemness
across their hospitals, meeting one of
their key 2021 goals.
The execution in an ASC would be
a bit different, but the concept would
be the same, as would the benefits.
Considering the broad range of invasive
and non-invasive procedures now available
at ASCs, having certain rooms dedicated
to specific procedures would allow
for more efficient use of equipment,
supplies, ordering, scheduling, turnover,
and more.
There are many inherent advantages
built into the ASC concept, and futurethinking
health systems and hospitals
are eager to capture them. But like the
hospitals, they still require excellent
planning, strategy, and clear goals to
